Around a month ago, Hollywood actor Vin Diesel posted a video on his official Instagram handle. The video showed him talking about making something iconic and taking in another soldier to join him in the fight for the truth. The clip ended with WWE veteran John Cena appearing behind Vin Diesel.

This clip led to tons of speculation among wrestling fans, with many of the opinions that Cena was all set to join the Fast & Furious franchise. Tonight, the rumor was officially confirmed!

Deadline Hollywood reported that Cena will be a part of Fast & Furious 9, which will hit the theatres on May 22nd, 2020. The movie will not feature The Rock, who had appeared in several past installments. Instead, The Rock will be starring in the upcoming Fast & Furious spinoff called "Hobbs & Shaw", which will also star Jason Statham and Roman Reigns.

Let's take a look at 5 possible outcomes for John Cena following his inclusion in FF9.

#5 A one-off appearance

The Fast & Furious franchise has been going great guns since a long while now. Ever since the first movie came out in 2001, it has wowed viewers on a worldwide scale for almost two decades. Cena's inclusion in the franchise could surely open up several doors for him in Hollywood. But what about his future in regards to Fast & Furious itself?

This opportunity could very well be a one-off appearance for all we know. Cena is someone who is a perfect fit for the action genre, and it's possible that the producers took him in to add another badass character to the franchise, albeit in a one-time deal. It is also possible that we will see Cena in a bunch of other movies after this, but not in future installments of Fast & Furious.

#4 The record stays tied

Cena and Flair

With Cena having bagged a role in one of the biggest movie franchises of all time, the chances of him coming back for even a short-lived championship run are looking bleak. These movies always make good money, no matter how they fare in terms of reviews. If this appearance leads to bigger and better things for Cena in Hollywood, it could very well mean that Ric Flair's record will remain tied with that of Cena's.

Of course, Cena could come back for one-off appearances in WWE, but if his movie career takes off unexpectedly, he might never get enough time to have a full-fledged reign with the WWE Title for the sake of breaking Ric Flair's record of 16 title reigns. Cena is currently standing at 16 reigns and needs one more to create history.

#3 A one-hit wonder?

Hollywood is a ruthless industry, and not everyone succeeds and goes on to become a globally recognized star. There have been many instances where top prospects ended up flopping gloriously.

When it comes to wrestling Superstars, the list of successful actors can be counted on one's fingers. Two names that immediately come to mind are Hulk Hogan and The Rock. Everyone else, including Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H, Roddy Piper, Goldberg, and many others seldom managed to break out of the low-budget movie barrier. What if the same happens with Cena? The former WWE Champion has never been a part of a major hit movie in his career.

There's no doubt that the movie will be a super hit and do incredible business, but what if Cena's star fizzles out soon after? Although the WWE Universe wouldn't want that to happen to their beloved Superstar, this is still a possibility. Nevertheless, WWE will welcome Cena with open arms in case his movie career doesn't work out.

#2 Goodbye, WWE

As discussed before, movies like Fast & Furious always tend to do amazing business, no matter what the critics say. The 9th installment of the hit franchise will be a blockbuster hit next year, and it could possibly mean a great deal for Cena.

In addition to the movie getting a good response, what if Cena's performance gets praised too? This would result in the movie producers signing him up for future editions of the franchise, and he could very well end up replacing The Rock! Being a part of a franchise such as Fast & Furious could result in Cena becoming a Hollywood mainstay on a permanent basis, but where would it leave WWE?

It's entirely possible that Cena's performance in the movie could lead to a chain of events, which would result in him never coming back to WWE.

The Rock and Cena

Despite becoming one of the biggest Hollywood stars of all time, The Rock managed to take some time off and make several appearances in WWE. He hosted WrestleMania 27 and went on to compete against John Cena in two consecutive 'Mania events. What if Cena shares the same fate?

In case Cena's Hollywood career takes off following his appearance in Fast & Furious 9, he might get more lucrative deals, and kick off a successful career as a movie star. Just like how The Rock returned to WWE 7 years after his WrestleMania 20 match, Cena could come back a decade down the line as a major mainstream figure.

WWE could pit him against a future megastar in a marquee match at WrestleMania. What more, Cena could take enough time off to actually break Flair's record by becoming WWE Champion again, just like The Rock did in 2013.
