What do this week's rumors suggest for John Cena and Rey Mysterio?

Ronda Rousey is finally here, John Cena needs a path to WrestleMania and the Cruiserweights are putting on consistently superb matches on a weekly basis. What do these things have in common? Well, they're the subject of some of this week's Top 5 rumors of course!

Before we get into it though, let's take a look at last week's Top 5 WWE Rumors of the Week - 26th February, 2018. One of those rumors, John Cena being part of Fastlane actually came true whilst some of the others like Bobby Lashley and Jeff Hardy returning are yet to come to fruition.

So, what's going on in this week's rumor mill? Well, let's start with the one thing that's had everyone talking over the last week or so.

#5. Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania

What is going on with Rey Mysterio and WWE?
What is going on with Rey Mysterio and WWE?

Rey Mysterio has been the subject of a lot of WWE news and speculation over the last week after Justin Barasso from Sport Illustrated claimed that Mysterio was backstage at SmackDown Live to discuss a WrestleMania match, with John Cena lined up as the favourite opponent for the luchador.

This was later contradicted by several other reports, although the actual truth still remains incredibly unclear, even Rey Mysterio's friends aren't certain, and it seems he was, at the very least, supposed to be backstage at SmackDown.

Adding more fuel to the fire is the fact that he has recently been pulled from an indie wrestling event he was due to take part in during WrestleMania weekend, although a recent injury may have scuppered any 'Mania plans the WWE actually had in mind for the show.

#4. Neville on his way back?

Will Neville be back for 205 Live?
Will Neville be back for 205 Live?

The 'King of Cruiserweights' is one of the best wrestlers the WWE has at their disposal but currently, he's not being used following a walk-out from the company over his creative direction.

This is a massive shame given that Neville is as talented as he is, but there might be some good news for fans of the British star, as Dave Meltzer has indicated that the WWE and Neville are in talks for his return, and that he could be back in time for April's WrestleMania.

We further reported that the WWE may have even tried to get Neville back sooner, with online speculation suggesting that they wanted him to be part of their currently ongoing Cruiserweight Title Tournament.

#3. Why wasn't Brock Lesnar at Raw?

This was supposed to happen a week ago, but it didn't. Why?
This was supposed to happen a week ago, but it didn't. Why?

So, we still don't have a conclusive answer for this, was Brock Lesnar's absence from last week's Raw a work, in order to get Roman over and make Brock the villain. Or was it part of Brock's ongoing contract negotiations with him walking out a power-play. Or was Lesnar sent home for the photo with Dana White that Dana posted on Twitter.

However, I personally feel that this is all part of the storyline with the WWE weaving the very real contract negotiations and possible MMA return for Lesnar into their fictional narrative for Roman Reign's big 'Mania moment three years in the making.

Something that further strengthens this is the actions of Brock at the live event in Chicago with the 'Beast Incarnate' getting heat for putting Kane away in under a minute, upsetting the live crowd. This could all be part of the same effort to get people to boo for Brock, as Dave Meltzer indicated the squash match was a WWE decision.

#2. WWE looking to bring back Superstar for the THIRD time

Could Del Rio end up back in WWE again?
Could Del Rio end up back in WWE again?

Alberto Del Rio is currently enjoying a run at the top of Impact Wrestling's card after being allowed to return when his domestic abuse charges were dropped. However, it seems that the WWE might be once again looking to acquire the Mexican's services.

He's already had two runs in the WWE, neither of which ended particularly well, but Mike Johnson from PWInsider claims to have heard rumblings of Vince McMahon loving to have Del Rio back in the company.

Given that Del Rio's Impact contract is up soon we could very well be looking at a return to the WWE, which in my opinion would be a simply awful decision. Still, he has some fans out there so we'll have to wait and see

#1. First ever female WrestleMania main event

Are we looking at the competitors for the first ever female 'Mania main event
Are we looking at the competitors for the first ever female 'Mania main event?

Ronda Rousey seems like the next step in WWE finally having a first-ever female main event and internet rumblings have suggested that she will be a vital part in the history-making moment with WWE already making plans to make history.

The suggestion is that WWE are going to have the first ever female 'Mania main event soon, in the next couple of years or so. The current belief is that the match will be Ronda Rousey Vs. Charlotte Vs. Asuka in a Triple Threat title match.

This seems like a huge match to me, especially if Asuka maintains her unbeaten streak and Charlotte continues to be a dominant champion. If Ronda comes good as a wrestler this will definitely have the pedigree and build-up to headline a show.
