What's in store at Clash of Champions 2019?
What's in store at Clash of Champions 2019?

WWE pay-per-view Clash of Champions is set to witness each title being put to test. There are few storylines which will meet its final fate on Sunday night while others will continue to fuel intense intense rivalries. Amidst historic moments, new feuds will be born.

A total of 11 Championships will be on the line. Randy Orton and Kofi Kingston will fight to end their decade-old rivalry. The Viper is adamant that he was responsible behind Kofi’s success and that the one-third of New Day is undeserving of his recent Championship run. Well, the WWE Champion will look to prove otherwise when he steps inside the squared circle.

Braun Strowman and Seth Rollins will fight together as a team for the RAW TAG Team Championship before they lock horns for the Universal Title.

Sasha Banks returned and took the Women’s division by storm. She will be facing Becky Lynch for the RAW Women’s title. On the other hand, her best friend and SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley will look to defend her title against Charlotte Flair in the latter’s hometown.

The only non-championship match on the card is Roman Reigns vs Rowan. The ‘Big Dog’ and Rowan will face off in a no disqualification match.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at the titles which will change hands and the ones which won’t.

Honorable mention: Will change hands - 24/7 Championship

What will R-Truth do next to retain his title?
What will R-Truth do next to retain his title?

This isn’t really a surprise, is it? Well, we know that the 24/7 Championship will change hands at Clash of Champions but the real question is how many times?

At RAW Reunion 2019 we saw nine different champions. It all started with Drake Maverick who did manage to win back his title one more time before losing it to R-Truth who was the ninth Champion of the night.

Could we see something similar? Maybe this time there won’t be that many WWE Legends involved but we could certainly hope to witness the title change hands thrice.

Do you think R-Truth will walk out with his title once again?

#10 Will change hands – WWE Cruiserweight Championship

Where is 205 Live headed?
Where is 205 Live headed?

Ever since his return to the ring three months ago, Drew Gulak has been exceptionally good. He is more aggressive and has dominated most of his encounters against other 205 Live Superstars.

He is set to defend his title against Humberto Carrillo and Lince Dorado in a triple-threat match. Although Gulak has been brilliant in his title reign, we may see a new WWE Cruiserweight Champion walk out of the arena tonight.

Make no mistake, this match will be filled with fast-paced action. We hope that there are several spots in the match that will keep us at the edge of our seats. After all, the Purple Brand never fails to deliver during pay-per-views.

With recent talks about 205 Live moving more towards NXT, we might see Gulak challenging for other titles shortly. Hence, it might be the perfect chance for WWE to put the spotlight on a new Cruiserweight champion.

#9 Won’t Change hands – SmackDown Tag Team Championship

What could go wrong here?
What could go wrong here?

One of the most charismatic Tag Teams in WWE history, Big E and Xavier Woods are set to defend their SmackDown Tag Team Titles against the Revival.

Both Revival and New Day share a long history. Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder even assisted Randy Orton in taking down Kofi Kingston, one-third of The New Day.

This is The New Day’s fourth title run as Tag Team Champions on the Blue Brand. On the other hand, The Revival have never won the SmackDown Tag Team titles and they will look to make history tonight.

But it won’t be easy for Dawson and Wilder to move past current Champions. Both teams might have the same number of RAW Tag Team Championships but here, the story is little different.

There’s also a chance that the result of this match will slightly influence the WWE Championship match which will see Kofi Kingston locking horns with Randy Orton later during the PPV.

#8 Will change hands – Women’s Tag Team Titles

A potential feud?
A potential feud?

Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross are brilliant Tag Team Champions. The two best friends compliment each other very well, both inside and outside the square circle.

They will go up against Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville who are determined to get their hands on the title. In fact, Rose has ensured that she makes the feud personal by attacking Cross on her appearance.

As much as I like to see Bliss and Cross as the Champions, a good rivalry is the only way to elevate a title in the eyes of WWE Universe. Let’s be honest, there aren’t really that many teams in the Women’s division who can be worthy title-holders.

If Bliss and Cross lose their title to the team of ‘Fire and Desire’ there will be a possibility to script a great rivalry. Both teams can engage in a good storyline which will eventually put the Women’s Tag Team titles on the map.

Therefore, WWE might use this opportunity to introduce an interesting feud with this booking.

#7 Won’t change hands – United States Championship

Not ready to give up the title yet...
Not ready to give up the title yet...

AJ Styles is arguably the best wrestler in the world. But Cedric Alexander managed to steal the spotlight in the duo’s last few encounters which is commendable. He is definitely a worthy challenger for the United States Championship.

However, that may not be enough for him to take the title away from Styles. The Phenomenal One has outdone himself both as the United States Champions and as the spokesperson of The OC. No word other than brilliant can truly define his recent portrayal.

The arrogance with which he addresses the WWE Universe is driven from the title that’s wrapped around his waist. If he loses his title, he will become just another WWE Superstar who complains about not receiving the opportunity.

Don’t get me wrong, Alexander should become the United States Champion. But maybe it would be better if he gets his hands on the title towards the end of the year.

#6 Will change hands – Intercontinental Championship

Could The Miz become the Intercontinental Champion once again?
Could The Miz become the Intercontinental Champion once again?

The Miz is awesome but as a face, not so much. He will challenge Shinsuke Nakamura for the Intercontinental Championship and the latter will be accompanied by Sami Zayn. Although the odds seem to be stacked against Miz, he might be able to pull off an unexpected win.

Miz will have to look out for two top WWE Superstars during the match. This would be a perfect setting for him to pull off a tricky win. If WWE aren’t ready to turn him into a heel just yet, maybe he can use this match to portray himself as a smart babyface.

We know Miz always has a trick or two up his sleeve. Additionally, he was at his best during his eight previous reigns as the Intercontinental Champion during which he took the title to new altars.

As far as Zayn is concerned, he is one of the few people who can manage to get under your skin. It will be interesting to see how an irked Miz manages to make beat the Champion without any assistance.

#5 Won’t change hands – WWE Championship

'Stupid... stupid... stupid?'
'Stupid... stupid... stupid?'

Kofi Kingston is one of the most inspiring WWE Superstar today who changed the course of history in the promotion. Now, he is set to face Randy Orton who believes that he is the reason behind Kofi’s success in the last few months.

The duo has managed to bring a decade old rivalry to life with wonderful storytelling. With the immense amount of history between them, this is one of the matches that you do not want to miss.

When Kingston and Orton recreated the iconic table spot from ten years ago at Madison Square Garden, the crowd went wild. That is enough for one to fathom the drama and intensity of this storyline. Not to forget, Kingston and Orton have allies in The New Day and The Revival respectively. Maybe they will get assistance during this match.

Kofi Kingston has defended his WWE Championship against top Superstars. Ten years ago, the Viper might have been doubtful of Kofi’s abilities but now, there’s no room for it. Kofi can retain his title and earn Randy Orton’s respect to bring this decade-old feud to a poetic end.

#4 Will change hands – SmackDown Women’s Championship

Will the Queen win her ninth Women's Championship tonight?
Will the Queen win her ninth Women's Championship tonight?

Bayley’s much-awaited heel turn took the entire WWE Universe by storm. The Hugger is adamant on proving that the SmackDown Women’s Championship is, by no means, less than RAW Women’s title.

She will be up against the Queen, Charlotte Flair. Bayley attacked both Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair with a steel chair to show the world that she will always be loyal to her best friend.

Sadly, that might prove to be detrimental for the current champion. Bayley was pinned by Charlotte last week and the latter will now look to win her fifth SmackDown Women’s Championship at her hometown. It will also the Queen to seek revenge from Bayley as the latter was responsible behind ending her fourth title reign on the Blue Brand.

If Bayley fails to retain her title, she will most likely move to RAW to help Banks in her cruel intentions. I feel we deserve to see Bayley ruling the SmackDown Women’s division as a Heel-ish champion for a little longer but that probably won't happen.

#3 Won’t change hands – RAW Women’s Championship

The Boss might not beat The Man
The Boss might not beat The Man

Becky Lynch was ruling the women’s division comfortably until the Boss showed up. Sasha Banks’ time away from WWE made her realize how much she deserves to be at the pinnacle of the sport. She will challenge The Man for RAW Women’s Championship.

The two Horsewomen were engaged in a brutal war of words in the last few weeks. Banks believes that all the hype around Lynch was the result of an accidental punch by Nia Jax that broke The Man’s nose.

Becky Lynch, on the other hand, has proven time and again why she is one of the most over Superstars in the WWE universe and is ruling the world of wrestling entertainment. A match between these two is bound to be epic.

Sasha Banks does deserve to win the title but now is not the time. It will be too soon Becky Lynch to lose a title to someone who returned just a few weeks ago.

Additionally, it will destroy a potentially iconic feud that can develop between these two WWE Superstars.

#2 Will change hands – RAW Tag Team titles

Can they work together as a team?
Can they work together as a team?

Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman are a part of an interesting storyline that will have several twists throughout the night. The two will first defend their RAW Tag Team Championship against Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode before they lock horns for the Universal title.

It was oddly nice to see the ‘Monster Among Men’ and ‘The Architect’ team up and win the titles. But the tension mounting between them in the past few weeks, especially since Strowman challenged Rollins for the Universal title, may cause friction during their Tag Team match.

Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler, on the other hand, do not have any internal conflicts which will help them be a better team as compared to their opponents. Both these Superstars are determined to become the new Tag Team Champion of the Red Brand and they can use the friction between Strowman and Rollins to their advantage.

If Rollins and Strowman fail to retain their title, it will surely have a ripping affect on their match later in the night when they go toe-to-toe for the Universal title.

#1 Won’t change hands – WWE Universal Championship

Strowman has his eyes on the title
Strowman has his eyes on the title

Seth Rollins defeated the ‘Beast Incarnate’, Brock Lesnar to claim the Universal Championship. He was enjoying his run until Braun Strowman had a glance at the title which somehow made him the number 1 challenger for the same.

But hey, I don’t really have a problem with that. Strowman deserves the title as much as anyone else on the roster, if no more. We will finally see the ‘Monster Amongst Men’ fighting for the title that he truly deserves.

But that doesn’t mean he will be able to move past Seth Rollins with such ease. The Beast Slayer is someone who doesn’t give up in a fight. He managed to overcome Lesnar and he will give his heart and soul in surviving the upcoming threat.

Even if Rollins retains his title, once can’t ignore the actions that might unfold during their match. Not to forget, it is highly unlikely that AJ Styles and the OC won’t pull off any shenanigans during this match.
