WWE saw a flurry of moments which shocked fans. These were moments that fans might have had on their wishlist but were convinced that they won’t come true in the near future. Some are simply unpredictable, while some had a degree of predictability but was too good to be true when it actually happened. Here are 10 of those moments.
10. Daniel Bryan’s hometown buries Triple H
YES, Daniel Bryan is the most popular superstar in the roster today. YES, his chants have only gotten louder since that fateful night after WM 28. And YES, this will only get better. He might just win the Rumble. We can’t rule that out. Triple H was in the middle speaking the lines from his rehearsed script but the audience was just too enamoured by Daniel Bryan. They decided to ignore what the Game had to say. Instead they made him wait and wait and wait.
9. Ziggler cashes in
Even though, the cash-in had to happen sooner or later, the way it happened was truly unbelievable. This turned out to be one of the best moments of the year. It was just that damn exciting to watch a superstar like Ziggler get that sort of a reaction. It was testimony to his hard work and spectacular in-ring work.
8. Dusty Rhodes interrupts
This was awesome. It was only when later reports broke out that this move by Dusty Rhodes was unscripted. It broke kayfabe. Neither McMahon, HHH or Rhodes’ sons saw this coming. Stephanie’s reaction to Dusty’s facepalm looked so natural that it went hand in hand with those reports. Anyway, this storyline was great. And so was this moment. It starts at 1.31
7. Chris Jericho returns
Jericho said that the reaction to his Royal Rumble return was bigger than his debut reaction. That more or less puts this moment in perspective. Nobody expected this. Nobody. He instantly became the favourite to win the Rumble but unshockingly and to the chagrin of many fans was eliminated later.
6. Goldust’s career
Like Jericho, he made a shocking appearance at the Rumble. That was an appearance, nothing more. But with Cody getting fired, Goldust made another appearance for a match to get back his brother’s job. He lost but not without a bang. You see, that match was awesome. And now he is one half of the tag team champions. Thank God for Cody’s wedding, otherwise this storyline won’t have happened.
5. AJ and Natalya put on a great match
Okay, so AJ Lee’s worked shoot promo was unprecedented too, but it is highly unexpected for a divas match to be really attention worthy these days. Kaitlyn and AJ came close but this match trumps that. Natalya got to use some, if not many, of her moves and still appear strong. This turned out to be one of the best matches of the night.
4. Many moments from the championship ascension ceremony
This ceremony will always be remembered for the way it ended. The confusion, the mayhem, the various teases is what made it special. Punk’s laugh directed towards Stephanie, Daniel Bryan chants, Punk attacking Triple H, then receiving a Sweet Chin Music and then Daniel Bryan kicking the hell out of Michaels has to count for an exciting finish.
3. The Wyatts and the Shield colliding
I have spoken about these two at length. The intrigue surrounding them just never seems to end. They are not very similar in style but are very mesmerizing. Perhaps that is why this moment is so special. With the Shield showing many signs of a split, these two teams need to have more moments together.
2. Paul Heyman and Curtis Axel alliance
Nobody thought Axel is the new Paul Heyman guy but this really had very positive response from fans and wrestlers alike. Though the alliance now stands broken and Axel’s character never really took off, this moment was never predicted.
1. Brock Lesnar and CM Punk feud
This was expected to happen. The HOW of it was on the cards. Paul Heyman had to be the bone of contention. But the when and where of it was still up in the air. They did not disappoint. After all they gave us the match of the year at Summerslam.
