The New York Mets started their first year under new team manager Carlos Enrique Mendoza in 2024. Originally from Barquisimeto, Venezuela, he is a former minor league baseball player, having played for twelve seasons in the league.

After retiring from playing, he changed his direction towards coaching, starting with minor league teams. He also managed two minor league teams in the form of GCL Yankees in 2011 and Charleston RiverDogs in 2012. Later on, after the 2012 MLB season, he served as the roving defensive instructor for the New York Yankees. Remarkably, the New York Yankees appointed him as the quality control coach in 2018 and later promoted him to become the bench coach of the team in 2020.

He was officially declared as the new manager of the New York Mets from the 2024 season in November 2013, after former manager Buck Showalter was fired due to poor performance in the league.
