Jack Roosevelt Robinson was an American baseball player in the Major Leagues Baseball. He was also the first African American who played in the Major Leagues and played the position of a second baseman. Robinson was born on 13 January 1919 in Cairo, Georgia. In 1945, Robinson was offered a place in the Negro Leagues by the Kansas City Monarchs.
He faced much discrimination and obstacles in his path to playing professional baseball but he finally debuted his Major Leagues career in 1947 with the Brooklyn Dodgers. He played in his last game with the same team in 1956. Robinson was not only known for his excellent playing but his inspiring character that broke the barriers and showed other people of color that they too had a place in the Major Leagues.
Even in his short-lived career, he managed to get many accolades and awards to his name. He was the NgL All-Star in 1945, a six times All-Star and the World Series Champion in 1955. He was the NL MVP IN 1949, two times NL stolen base leader and NL batting champion in 1949. Robinson is also part of the Major League Baseball All-Century Team. He was also inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962 on his first ballot, 77.5% of votes were in his favor.
