Sandy Alcantara Montero, also known by his nickname, ‘Sandman’, is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher for the Miami Marlins in Major League Baseball(MLB). He was born on September 7, 1995, in Azua de Compostela, Dominican Republic.

Montero grew up in Santo Domingo and dropped out of school in eighth grade to focus on baseball. Later, he was selected in 2013 by the St. Louis Cardinals. The pitcher made his Minor League debut in 2014 and played in the Minor Leagues from 2014 to 2017. He made his MLB career debut in 2017 with the Cardinals. The Cardinals traded him to the Marlins and he has been playing for them ever since. Sandy is a two-time All-Star and was the NL Cy Young Award winner in 2022. He also made the All-MLB First Team in 2022.
