American professional baseball catcher Sean Murphy was born on October 4, 1994, and currently plays as a catcher for the Atlanta Braves in Major League Baseball (MLB).

In the third round of the 2016 Major League Baseball draft, the Oakland Athletics selected him. He made his professional debut with the Arizona League Athletics in the ACL. On September 1, 2019, Murphy was promoted to the major leagues by the Athletics, who had selected his contract. On September 4, in his debut game, he hit a home run on his first hit against Jake Jewell. On December 12, 2022, Murphy was traded by the Athletics to the Atlanta Braves as a part of a three-team deal.

Sean Murphy had a memorable 2023 season where he was named to the All-Star game and was the Gold Glove Award winner.

Before being drafted, Murphy played at Wright State University for the Wright State Raiders. He also played for the Orleans Firebirds in the Cape Cod Baseball League where he was named league’s All-Star. After signing with the Athletics, he made his debut with the Arizona League Athletics. Murphy was called up to the Vermont Lake Monsters after just one game with the Arizona League Athletics. He batted .237 with two home runs and seven RBIs in 22 games with Vermont. In June of 2017, he was moved to the Midland RockHounds after starting the season with the Stockton Ports. He batted .250 overall in 98 games between the two teams, with 13 home runs and 48 RBIs. He spent most of the 2018 season playing with Midland, slashing .288/ .358/ .498 in 68 games with 43 RBIs and eight home runs.
