Mike James is a basketball guard for the North Carolina State Wolfpacks, as of 2024. Previously playing for the Louisville Cardinals, James entered the NCAA transfer portal in April 2024 and made his move to NC State. Graduating in 2021 from Oak Ridge High School as a four-star recruit, he rejected NC State's offer among others to enroll with Lousiville. In his redshirt sophomore year, James played in all 32 games for Louisville in 2023–24, finishing with averages of 12.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game.
James was ranked ninth in the ACC in terms of minutes played (33.3) and tenth in terms of free throw percentage (81.8%). In a win over Miami, James scored in double figures 22 times, including a career-high 26 points. He did, however, redshirt his rookie season because of an Achilles tear.
