The Jacksonville State Gamecocks had a remarkable 1992 season. Under the leadership of head coach Bill Burgess, the team had a 12–1–1 record. They finished the season with a 17–13 win over Pittsburg State in the NCAA Division II National Championship Game. This victory marked the first national title in the program's history, as it had a balance of both defense and offense. The 2024 season was also notable for Jacksonville State, they were competing in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, under Conference USA. The Gamecocks won their first Conference USA title. They dominated against Western Kentucky with a 52–12 margin in the championship game.
