Born on October 12, 2003, in Charlotte, North Carolina, Pearce started at Julius L. Chambers High School, where he scored 14.5 sacks and two interceptions as a senior. A four-star recruit, he chose to play college football at the University of Tennessee.

As a freshman in 2022, he appeared in all 13 games. By his sophomore year in 2023, he had emerged as one of the top defensive players in the SEC, ranking third in sacks and fifth in tackles for loss. He earned First-Team All-SEC honors in both 2023 and 2024 for his consistent performance.
