The Dave Rimington Trophy is one of the popular trophies being presented in college football. This trophy is reserved for the best center in college football every year since 2005. The trophy is named after Dave Rimington, who himself, is a former center player for the Nebraska Cornhuskers at the University of Nebraska from 1979 to 1982. The aim of this trophy is to act as a fundraiser for the Boomer Esiason Foundation for their fight against cystic fibrosis.
The Dave Rimington trophy was first presented in 2000 and Dominic Raiola of the Nebraska Cornhuskers became the first recipient of the trophy. Since then, the award has been presented every year. The process of choosing the winner is mainly done through three teams - Walter Camp Foundation (WCF), Sporting News (SN), and Football Writers Association of America (FWAA). The most recent winner of the Dave Rimington trophy was Jackson Powers-Johnson of the Oregon Ducks in 2023.

Rimington Trophy History
The concept of the Rimington Trophy started when Syd Russell, a retired sportswriter for the San Francisco Examiner was interviewing Dave Rimington about his Outland Trophies. He then claimed that there were awards for all positions in college football except for the centers. He suggested the naming of the trophy after Dave Rimington himself and then both Syd Russell and Dave Rimington presented the idea of the trophy to Boomer Esiason. Accordingly, they agreed upon the Boomer Esiason Foundation sponsoring the trophy. The trophy was sculpted by Marc Mellon, who also sculpted the March of Dimes Award as per Rimington Trophy.
