Iyer was the best choice left for DD after Gambhir's exit

IPL 2018 was yet another disastrous season for the Delhi Daredevils. Since dropping Gautam Gambir as the captain the middle of the season, DD bet their bottom dollar on young Shreyas Iyer, which turned out to be too much for his shoulders. Lack of time and preparation might be a factor as he was handed the responsibility in a New York minute.

Though Iyer batted his heart out throughout the season, his captaincy didn't impress many. It is understandable that he is not an experienced campaigner and needs time but a recent action has opened an option for the franchise.

By making a kill in the trade-off, Delhi reacquired their missing son, Shikhar Dhawan. The addition of the southpaw will definitely power their batting lineup but letting their three players go in exchange seems excessive. Maybe, DD think they've found a new captain for their side too.
