#3 David Warner’s 90*steers Sunrisers to a convincing win- 2016

Put into bat first on a humid evening, Mumbai Indians got off to a slow start to their innings. They lost both their openers Martin Guptill and Parthiv Patel within the mandatory power play. However, Ambati Rayudu and Krunal Pandya steadied the ship and made sure the team reached a decent total of 142/6 in 20 overs. Barinder Sran was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets to his name.

In reply, Sunriers got off to a poor start losing their star opener Shikar Dhawan in the very first over, bowled by Tim Southee. However, this didn’t deter David Warner as he along with his Australian teammate Moises Henriques struck together a match-winning partnership of 62 runs in 55 balls.

Warner, in particular, was aggressive as he notched up his 50 of 42 deliveries. Post half-century, he cut loose, smashing boundaries at will. Sunrisers Hyderabad reached the target with 15 balls to spare thanks to swashbuckling 90 off 59 deliveries by David Warner. His innings comprised of 7 boundaries and 4 hits over the fence. For his effort, he was awarded Man of the Match.

#2 Ishant Sharma dents Mumbai Indians with the ball- 2013

This was the debut season for Sunrisers Hyderabad and they had a terrific run at home winning 90 percent of the matches. The same story repeated when they hosted Mumbai Indians in the 43rd game of Indian Premier League played in Hyderabad. Electing to bat first on a slow surface, Mumbai Indians didn’t have an ideal start as they lost Sachin Tendulkar and in form Dinesh Karthik in the 5th over. Ishant Sharma first picked up the wicket of master blaster, who was bowled and then followed it up by picking up the wicket of Dinesh Karthik who handed a simple catch to Karn Sharma in the same over.

Ishant Sharma broke the back of Mumbai Indians by picking up 2 priced scalps and he had a dream spell. His figures read 4-1-15-2. With some tight bowling from the likes of Dale Steyn, Amit Mishra, and leggie Karn Sharma, Mumbai Indians never had any momentum in their innings. They meandered their way along to a below-par score of 129/4 in their allocated 20 overs.

In reply, Sunrisers Hyderabad made light weather of the target. Shikar Dhawan took the attack to the opposition right from the word go. He scored a breezy 73 of 55 deliveries, which consisted of 9 boundaries and 1 hit over the fence. He held up one end and with support from skipper Kumara Sangakkara (21) and Hanuma Vihari (25), Sunrisers managed to reach the target of 130 runs with 2 overs to spare.

Sunrisers Hyderabad won this game largely due to an excellent spell of fast bowling by lanky Ishant Sharma and for his 2-15 he was awarded Man of the Match.

This was a do-or-die match for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 8th edition of Pepsi Indian Premier League. A win would take them to play-offs spot and loss meant they would be out of the tournament.

Electing to bat first, Sunrisers got off to a terrible start losing their top 3 wickets (Shikhar Dhawan, David Warner, and Eoin Morgan) within first 6 overs. Mitch McClenaghan and Lasith Malinga bowled a fiery spell as they broke the back of top order and Sunrisers were reduced to 3-23 in 5.3 overs. Moises Henriques and K.L Rahul tried to steady the ship but with some tight bowling by the likes of Harbhajan Singh and J Suchith, Sunrisers never had any momentum in the innings. They were tottering at 9-91 with more than 2 overs to spare. In the end, they were dismissed for a poultry score of 113.

Mitch McClenaghan picked up 3 wickets while Malinga and Suchith picked up 2 a piece.

Chasing a target of 114, Mumbai Indians never looked in any trouble. The dynamic duo of Parthiv Patel and Lendyl Simmons scored runs easily and Mumbai Indians reached the target with more than 6 overs to spare. Parthiv Patel top scored with 51*, while Lendl Simmons got out for 48 of the bowling of Karn Sharma.

For his spell of 3-16 in 4 overs, Mitch McClenaghan was awarded Man of the Match.
