Two hat-tricks were registered by two different players for two different teams in two different matches on the same day and for the first time, the IPL fans have witnessed 2 hat-tricks in a single day in IPL history.

Date: April 14, 2017

Hat-trick 1: (Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Mumbai Indians)

Samuel Badree of RCB registered the first hat-trick of IPL 2017 against the MI in Bangalore. Badree took the wickets of Parthiv Patel, Mitchell McClenaghan and Rohit Sharma in three consecutive balls to claim his first hat-trick in the IPL. Badree was the 2nd West Indian to take a hat-trick in the IPL after Sunil Narine in 2013.

Hat-trick 2: (Gujarat Lions vs Rising Pune Supergiant)

Within few hours, GL pacer Andrew Tye claimed his first hat-trick in the IPL against the RPS in Rajkot. He helped GL restrict RPS to 171 by taking his hat-trick and gave just 4 runs in the last over of the innings. Tye was the 2nd Australian to take a hat-trick after Shane Watson in 2014.

It is interesting that Badree's hat-trick went in vain as MI defeated RCB by 4 wickets and Tye's hat-trick ended on a winning note as GL beat RPS by 7 wickets.

Andrew Tye celebrating his hat-trick against Rising Pune Supergiant

Australian bowler Andrew Tye has the ability to unsettle any batsmen with his accurate yorkers and pace variations, particularly in the T-20 format. After failing to make a single appearance for Chennai Super Kings in 2015, Gujarat Lions bought Tye in the IPL 2016.

On April 14, 2017, Tye played his first IPL match for GL against Rising Pune Supergiant at Rajkot. In this match, Tye became the first player to take a hat-trick on debut IPL match when he dismissed Ankit Sharma, Manoj Tiwary and Shardul Thakur in three successive deliveries.

Tye finished his debut match with an impressive five-wicket haul (4-0-17-5) and recorded the best bowling figure for any bowler on debut in the IPL history (previous record: Shoaib Akhtar 3-0-11-4 for Kolkata Knight Riders vs Delhi Daredevils in 2008).

Pravin Tambe

Pravin Tambe is an unorthodox leg-spinner from Mumbai who made his IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals at the age of 41 years in the IPL 2013. He impressed everyone with his fantastic bowling and won the Golden wicket award (for the leading wicket-taker) in 2013 Champions League Twenty20.

On May 5, 2014, Tambe claimed a rare two ball hat-trick (i.e) three wickets in two legal deliveries for RR against the Kolkata Knight Riders and he became the first player to achieve this feat in the history of the IPL (overall second player in T20 after Isuru Udana).

In the 16th over, Manish Pandey (diamond duck) got stumped on a wide ball (1st ball) from Tambe. Then, in the first legal ball of that over, Pravin Tambe got the wicket of Yusuf Pathan (golden duck) and got Ryan ten Doeschate (golden duck) in his 2nd legal delivery.

With the help of Shane Watson's triple strike in an over and Tambe's hat-trick (4-0-26-3), RR successfully defended the target and won the match by 10 runs.
