The right-arm mystery spinner shot into the limelight during the 2018 Tamil Nadu Premier League where he turned out for the Siechem Madurai Panthers.

His disciplined bowling, both in the power play as well in the slog overs, was instrumental in his side's title-winning performance in the third edition of one of the most promising T20 leagues in India.

Varun, who recorded an economy of just 4.70, bowled 125 dot balls in the 40 overs that he bowled throughout the season. He picked up nine wickets in ten matches, with his best figures reading 3/16.

His variations with the ball during the third edition of the TNPL were exceptional and he is sure to unfurl some in the next IPL if he gets his much-deserved contract at the 2019 auctions.

His four-over quota proved vital for Madurai's success, as batsmen were visibly perplexed while facing his deliveries.

He followed it up by scalping 22 wickets in 9 matches for Tamil Nadu at the 2018 Vijay Hazare Trophy and emerged as the second highest wicket-taker in the tournament. Expect Varun to land a lucrative contract at the 2019 IPL auctions after his recent exploits with the ball!
