Royal Challengers Bangalore has been one of the most charismatic sides in IPL history. It was the second most expensive side ($111.6 million) after Mumbai Indians ($111.9 million). RCB has always fielded some of the biggest names in world cricket and has the most loyal fan base. RCB's fans are vociferous, who have backed the team inspite of its shortcomings. At the start of every new season, fans throng Chinnaswamy with a renewed hope and vigor, which made the current RCB captain Virat Kohli to retire jersey #12 and dedicate it to the fans, calling them the team's permanent twelfth man.

Being one of the most popular sides in IPL history, they have also had some big performances over the years. Chinnaswamy has been a ground which has resulted in run fests. This has tapered down to some insane records which are simply unbelievable. Whether it is the runs, partnerships, sixes, boundaries etc. RCB pretty much top all the lists. Irrespective of the records, IPL glory always seems to elude them though.

#1 Chris Gayle - 175 versus Pune Warriors in 2013

Chris Gayle had established himself as the "T20 Marauder" in the IPL. This innings cemented his spot as the best ever in T20 cricket. Pune was playing RCB in Bangalore and RCB's top order was in red hot form. Aaron Finch won the toss and elected to bowl first. Gayle and Dilshan started the innings on a positive note and scored 28 in about 3 overs. Gayle all of a sudden went berserk and smashed 28 runs in the fifth over bowled by Mitch Marsh and the score rocketed to 61.

Ali Murtuza was introduced into the attack in the 7th over and got smashed for 18 runs. Aaron Finch being the captain bowled the next over and got massacred for 29 runs. Gayle completed his hundred of a mere 30 balls when he smashed Dinda for a 122 meter six, which went soaring out of the ground and became one of the biggest sixes ever hit in the IPL. Gayle eventually finished with 175 ooff 66 balls with 16 sixes and RCB scored an insurmountable 263, the highest score ever in T20 cricket. All Pune could manage was 133, giving RCB a mammoth 130-run victory.

Chris Gayle finds it difficult to take singles, but when it comes to six hitting it is "Stand and Deliver" for the big man. The kind of impact he's had on T20 cricket has been phenomenal. He has become the first batsmen ever to score 800 sixes in T20 cricket and also the only player to score 10000 runs in T20s. He has a staggering 21 hundreds in T20 cricket, 14 more than his nearest rival Brendon McCullum. His numbers prove that he's the "Don Bradman of T20 cricket" who has revolutionized power hitting.

Playing for RCB, Gayle has hit a plethora of sixes. He represented RCB for a period of 7 years (2011 - 2017) and even won the Orange Cap twice for the franchise in 2012 and 2013. Gayle hit a total of 292 sixes for RCB, which is almost hundred more than the next best Suresh Raina. We can never forget his 175 against Pune, where he hit 16 sixes alone and had smashed 5 sixes in an over against Rahul Sharma in 2012.

A lot has been spoken and written about Virat Kohli. He is the most complete batsman in all formats in the modern era. The enigmatic thing about Virat is that he sticks to his basic game and plays orthodox cricketing shots across formats. He plays in the "V" and scores runs at a staggering strike rate of 136. He is one of the 3 players with Rohit Sharma and Suresh Raina to score over 4000 runs in IPL history.

Virat was in imperious form in IPL 2016 and smashed as many as 4 centuries in one single season. The previous record was held Mike Kilinger in the Natwest T20 blast in England, where he had scored 3 hundreds. Virat did one better and pulverized the oppositions with his belligerent batting. He scored 100 vs Gujarat and followed it up with a masterclass in chasing against RPS with 108. Virat and ABD smashed twin hundreds against Gujarat and he capped off the season with a dominating hundred off 46 balls scoring 113 against Kings XI Punjab.

Virat Kohli's hunger for runs is well known. He can dominate oppositions in all formats and his formula is simple. Opposition captains are aware of his formula, yet they find it difficult to stop him. Once he has his eye in, he'll be in for a long haul and make teams pay for it. Virat had already hit a purple patch at the start of 2016 by consistently scoring runs in Australia, for which he was awarded the Man of the Series in T20s and also in the World T20 for being the highest run-getter with 273 runs in 5 matches at an average 136.50.

He carried this form to the IPL and started the season with a classy 81 against Sun Risers Hyderabad. With every innings, his form got better and he also scored 4 imperious centuries in the process. He scored a total of 973 runs in 16 matches at an average of 81.8 with 4 hundreds and 7 fifties. Virat capped off the season by scoring a brilliant 54 in the final, but failed to take RCB over the line.

He won the Orange Cap for his monumental efforts and this is a record that will stand against the test of time.

Virat Kohli and AB De Villers are the two batting pillars of RCB. There friendship is well known and they love batting with each other. Once they get going, it's a nightmare for the bowlers, but a treat to the fans. If Virat plays orthodox shots, ABD manufactures shots and together they make a mockery of line, length and bowling plans. Virat believes in pacing his innings before going big whereas ABD can go ballistic from any given point of time. This makes them the hottest pair in T20s and they have had some mammoth partnerships.

215-run stand versus Mumbai Indians in 2015

Virat and ABD had their first 200-run partnership against Mumbai Indians in Wankhede when they annihilated the Mumbai bowling with a 215-run stand, when Kohli scored 82 and ABD scored 133. Their partnership helped RCB reach 235 and Mumbai could manage 196, giving RCB a 39-run win.

229-run stand versus Gujarat Lions in 2016

Virat and ABD's second 200-run stand came against Gujarat Lions, when both scored centuries. Virat's 109 and ABD's unbeaten 129 was a feast for the fans in Chinnaswamy where it was boundaries and sixes galore. Together they scored 15 boundaries and 20 sixes in their 229-run stand, which is also the highest ever in T20 cricket. Scoring 200 is difficult for a team and here two freaks had a partnership of 229. Gujarat were psychologically dented and they got bowled out for 104, handing a RCB a 144-run win.
