For all the action and fun associated with T20 cricket, it is still a game where quick thinking and proper implementation of plans is necessary to win.

Not for nothing do teams invest so much time in appointing captains. The leader has to be smart and capable of making decisions on the fly.

This has not been a cakewalk for even the best of players and despite them being world beaters they have often stumbled as the leader of a team.

Here in this slider, we take a look at 5 players who lasted just one season as the captain of an IPL team.

#5 David Miller, Kings XI Punjab

Back in 2016, South African David Miller was appointed captain of Kings XI Punjab and there were a lot of expectations on the Protea but unfortunately, he never got going in his role and failed to extract results for his team.

Also, his batting form slumped and in the six matches he led Punjab, he won only a solitary game and lost five. He had to be axed as the skipper after this dismal show and Murali Vijay took over.

#4 Glenn Maxwell, Kings XI Punjab

The revolving door for Kings XI Punjab continued next season too as they appointed Glenn Maxwell as the captain for the 2017 season.

Maxwell had no prior experience of leading sides, but Punjab gave him the responsibility and he started off in the right spirit. However, the results did not arrive and towards the end of the season, there were flared tempers in the dressing room as Virender Sehwag, the mentor of Punjab, lashed out at the captain for not being responsible at all.

Leading Punjab for 14 matches, Maxwell won only seven and conceded seven games for the side. Punjab could not qualify for the playoffs.

#3 JP Duminy, Delhi Daredevils

Back in 2015, Delhi Daredevils appointed JP Duminy as the captain after Kevin Pietersen had led them in the previous season.

However, this did not prove to be a very fruitful venture as the side punched well under their weight and never got going in the league.

In 14 matches, they could only win five and lose eight, a record which attracted fierce criticism from the home fans. Duminy was then replaced by Zaheer Khan in the next couple of seasons.

#2 Harbhajan Singh, Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians were stumped when Sachin Tendulkar decided to step down and hand over the mantle to off-spinner Harbhajan Singh for the 2012 season.

It was a mixed-bag for Mumbai Indians that season as the team did decently in the round robin stage and made it to the playoffs but could only finish third in the league.

It was Ricky Ponting and then Rohit Sharma who took over the mantle from the next season.

#1 Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Rising Pune Supergiants

Yes, even a certain Mahendra Singh Dhoni makes this list. Back in 2016, when the Chennai Super Kings were barred from the IPL, Dhoni was snapped up by the Rising Pune Supergiant and was named captain of the side.

However, injuries plagued the team and neither Dhoni nor his team could get going at any point and it was a forgettable experience for Pune in 2016.

With only five victories in 14 games, Pune finished seventh in the league and Dhoni was replaced by Australian captain Steve Smith for the next season.
