5 moments from the KKR Vs RCB match that don’t fade away

Umesh Yadav picked up three wickets for KKR

Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore came up against each other in match no. 46 of IPL 10. After winning the toss, Kolkata opted to bowl first and restricted an already languishing RCB to a total of 158.

Fireworks from Sunil Narine (54) and Chris Lynn (50) helped the two-time champions cruise to a six-wicket victory over RCB at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. After this win, Kolkata rise to the second position on the table. For RCB, the streak of losses continues.

Here are 5 memorable moments from the match that don't fade away, quite like the Axe Signature range of body perfumes.

#1 Umesh Yadav’s opening burst

Umesh Yadav gifted Chris Gayle his second consecutive duck in the opening over. Gayle, playing his 100th IPL match, was sent back on the first ball of his innings. On a good length, Gayle was looking to work it towards the on-side but closed the bat face too early, the leading edge popped in the air and Gambhir ran to gobble it up at short cover.

That was the worst possible start for RCB.

An over late, Yadav struck again, this time to send back the RCB skipper. Kohli didn't pick it up the slower ball, swung across the line and missed it completely. He was given LBW and another disappointment for the 28-year old who had to walk back on 5 runs.

#2 Mandeep Singh’s 50

Mandeep Singh scored a crucial half-century for RCB

Mandeep Singh has shown fluency right through the season without actually kicking on. But against the Kolkata Knight Riders, he applied himself better and played a crucial innings for his team when it was needed. In his 43-ball 52, he hit one six and four fours to contribute in RCB’s total of 158.

However, he perished while trying to up the ante. Off the bowling of Narine, Mandeep made a bit of room, sat down and slog swept, made a decent enough connection, but it went towards deep square leg where Umesh timed his jump to perfection to gobble up the catch perfectly at deep square leg.

#3 Travis Head finally clicks

Travis Head finally came good in the IPL with a 47-ball 75

Another vital contribution in RCB’s total came from Travis Head. Although KKR’s opening batsmen were too good for the RCB bowlers, Head’s onslaught propelled RCB to respectability in their first innings. His 75 off 47 was marked by three fours and five sixes.

He has been given a long rope this season without much success. However, Head has been persisted with and finally, the left-hander repaid some of the belief by stitching a vital partnership with Mandeep. Towards the end of the innings, he opened his shoulders and tonked the ball to all parts of the field.

He has the ability to clear boundaries and the packed Chinnaswamy lapped up his brute force.

#4 Sunil Narine’s 15-ball 50

Narine struck it cleanly and took the RCB bowlers to the cleaners

KKR opener Sunil Narine was at his devastating best against RCB. He hit the RCB bowlers all over the park to register the joint fastest half century in IPL – 50 from 15 balls, finishing at 54 from 17. He smashed six fours and four sixes to send the crowd into frenzy.

Narine was ultimately dismissed by Aniket Chaudhary after he top-edge a short pitched delivery to wicket-keeper Kedar Jadhav. The West Indian punished his compatriot Samuel Badree, hitting him for three identical sixes and following it with a four. Narine’s KKR teammate Yusuf Pathan is the only other batsman in IPL to have a 15-ball 50.

#5 Chris Lynn returns

Chris Lynn returned back to the team after his injury layoff and scored a half-century

Chris Lynn's comeback to the squad after fighting a shoulder injury further boosted an already strong Kolkata Knight Riders batting line-up. The 27-year-old struck a splendid 22-ball 50 which was marked by five fours and four sixes.

Having taken the IPL by storm with his unbeaten 93 in a record opening partnership of 184 with KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir in the team’s opener against Gujarat Lions, this was Lynn’s second highest IPL score of this season.
