5 Overseas players IPL franchise might regret letting go

IPL has been an excellent platform for several uncapped cricketers to showcase their skills.

While providing them with the opportunity to excel at tasks which encompass, bowling within the power-play, batting during the death overs and opening the innings.

In a professional sports league like Indian Premier League, cricketers have to perform whenever called upon for their respective franchise. Some cricketers who played great for their new franchises and even outdid against their ex-franchise in the Indian Premier League.

Here, we take a look at five overseas cricketers IPL franchise regret letting go.

#1 Chris Gayle (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

The man from Jamaica holds most of the batting records in T20 cricket. He has the most fifties (65), most hundreds (18), most fours (804), most sixes (772) and highest score (175) in T20 cricket.

Chris Gayle was an indispensable member of Royal Challengers Bangalore squad from 2011 to 2017. In the Indian Premier League, he was the winner of the orange cap twice and won consecutively in 2011 and 2012. Gayle has single-handedly taken Royal Challengers Bangalore to countless triumphs over the years.

In 2013, he scored a magnificent 175 runs against the now-defunct Pune Warriors which is the highest individual score in the T20 format. Gayle has performed 102 matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore and scored 3,637 runs at an outstanding average of 41.30 with five centuries and 21 half-centuries to his name at an outstanding strike-rate of 151.30.

In the 2018 IPL Auction, Gayle was picked up by Kings XI Punjab for his base amount of INR 2 crores. He scored 104 runs off 64 deliveries against Sunrisers Hyderabad in that season and It was his 6th Indian Premier League century.

Releasing Chris Gayle would surely be a painful for Bangalore.

#4 Aaron Finch (Delhi Capitals)

Aaron Finch has been feared across the world for his dangerous hard-hitting and stroke-play and IPL is no different. Finch smashed 172 against Zimbabwe and created a record by registering the highest individual score in T20 international cricket.

Aaron Finch is the first player to perform for seven different IPL franchises so far. In the 2011 IPL Auction, he was purchased by the Delhi Capitals for $300,000. He played only 5 games for DC and scored 47 runs at an average of 9.43 in the 2011 IPL and his following year was pretty much the same. In 2012, Finch performed only 3 matches and scored 54 runs with an average of 18. He was released by Delhi Capitals in the next season.

In 2013 IPL, Finch went on to perform for the now-defunct Pune Warriors and scored 457 runs in just 14 matches. Delhi Capitals would have surely regretted selling him.

#3 Shakib Al Hasan (Kolkata Knight Riders)

Shakib Al Hasan is one of the greatest all-rounders in the world. He is pretty handy with the bat, very economical with the ball and exceptional in the field. He made valuable contributions for KKR that helped the franchise to win the title twice in 2012 and 2014.

In the 2014 Indian Premier League, Shakib missed a complete season due to his international commitments. Kolkata Knight Riders management splurged cash on other prominent players and dropped this enthusiastic worker in the 2017 IPL Auction.

In 2018 IPL Auction, he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for ₹2 crores. Shakib Al Hasan scored a vital 28 runs and took a solitary wicket giving away just 17 runs in 4 overs in the qualifier game against Kolkata Knight Riders and played a significant performance against his former IPL franchise.

Kolkata Knight Riders made a big mistake by selling him.

#4 Glenn Maxwell (Mumbai Indians)

Glenn Maxwell is one of the most hard-hitting Australian all-rounder. In the Big Bash League, he is playing for Melbourne Stars and scored 214 runs in just 8 matches at an extraordinary strike rate of 138.25. Maxwell also scored a remarkable 145 runs off just 65 deliveries against Sri Lanka in 2016.

Glenn Maxwell has been one of the best overseas cricketers who has sharpened in the Indian Premier League. in the 2013 Indian Premier League Auctions, he was the most expensive cricketer as Mumbai Indians picked up him for a whopping ₹5.3 crores. He played only four matches for Mumbai Indian and scored 42 runs at an average of 10.50.

In the 2014 IPL Auction, Maxwell was purchased by Kings XI Punjab and scored 554 runs at a terrific strike rate of 187.95 in just 16 matches.

Glenn Maxwells' best years came after leaving the Mumbai Indians.

#5 Andrew Tye (Chennai Super Kings)

Tye is an expert of variations and his knuckleballs are still an enigma for the batsmen. In 2015 Indian Premier League, Andrew Tye was a member of CSK.

The 32-year-old didn’t get an opportunity to perform in the playing XI and then following the Chennai Super Kings suspension, Tye transferred to the now-defunct Gujarat Lions, where he performed for a couple of years between 2016 and 2017. In 2017, he made his debut in Indian Premier League and played 5 matches for GL and took 13 wickets at an economy of 6.81.

In the 2018 IPL auction, He was bought by Kings XI Punjab. Andrew Tye turned out to be the highest wicket-taker in that season as he picked up 24 wickets in just 14 games.

If Andrew Tye had got the opportunity a few years back during his time with Chennai Super Kings, he would not have been traded to other franchises.
