IPL 2018: 5 players who can end Delhi Daredevil's trophy drought this year

Delhi Daredevils is one of the few sides that has never lifted the IPL trophy. They had a long list of superstars including Kevin Pietersen, Virender Sehwag, AB de Villiers but, all failed to deliver the IPL trophy.

They have qualified for the playoffs on three different occasions but failed to reach the final every time.

This season, however, they tried to change the core of their team and also signed some exciting players in the auctions. They have a perfect mixture of young and experienced players at their disposal and are looking like a team that is capable of lifting the IPL trophy.

#5 Chris Morris

Chris Morris has been performing well for DD from the last two seasons

One of the three players retained by Delhi Daredevils, Chris Morris has been a consistent performer for DD since the past two years.

The Proteas is one of the finds of the IPL and he showed his worth in the IPL before shining at the international stage.

He has scored 439 runs at an average of 36.58 with an impressive strike rate of 165.66. His bowling figures are also impressive and he dismissed 53 batsmen in 48 IPL games.

Chris Morris will work as a power-hitter during the concluding overs of the innings. The South African pacer is a valuable bowling asset as well.

#4 Colin Munro

Collin Munro is ranked 2nd on the list of top T20 batsmen

Currently ranked second on the list of the top T20 batsmen, Colin Munro was signed by DD for a price of ₹1.9 crore.

He was with KKR in the 2016 edition of the IPL but failed to impress during that spell. He had managed to score only 30 runs in the four games he played that season. His strike-rate of 100.00 was unimpressive as well.

Although, he has changed a lot as a batsman since his last IPL game and is now among the top power-hitters in the world. He is the only batsman in the world to score three T20 international centuries and has a strike rate of over 163 in the T20Is.

The Kiwi will start the innings for the Daredevils and can change the course of the game with his explosive batting in the powerplay.

#3 Trent Boult

Trent Boult is likely to lead the bowling line-up for Delhi Daredevils

With Kagiso Rabada out with an injury, Trent Boult has a huge role to play for the Delhi Daredevils in the upcoming IPL.

He had spells with Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders during the previous editions of the IPL before being picked by Delhi Daredevils for ₹2.2 crores in this year's auction.

The Kiwi pacer didn't get many opportunities in the IPL and had managed to play only 14 games during his time with Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders. He has 15 IPL wickets to his name with 3/19 being his best figure.

Boult is among the best fast bowlers in cricket right now and can trouble his opponents with his pace and ability to move the ball both ways.

Gautam Gambhir is back with his hometown team

Delhi Daredevils paid ₹2.8 crores in the IPL Auctions to bring Gautam Gambhir back to his hometown. He spent seven successful years with Kolkata Knight Riders and has established himself as one of the most consistent batsmen in the IPL history.

He has been given the responsibility to lead the team, and his experience and leadership qualities will be imperative to DD's success this season. He has guided KKR to two IPL titles under his leadership and will be looking forward to replicating the same with his hometown team.

The Delhi-born batsman is currently sitting at the fourth position on the list of most run scorers in the IPL history. He scored 4132 runs at an average of 31.78 with a strike rate of 124.60. He has 35 IPL fifties to his name which is only bettered by David Warner on the list of the all-time most IPL fifties.

Gautam Gambhir is likely to open the innings for Delhi Daredevils and will play a key role in DD's batting line-up.

Glenn Maxwell can change any game on his own

One of the best-attacking batsmen in the world, Glenn Maxwell has the capability to decide the game on his own.

Known for his explosiveness and unorthodox batting skills, Maxwell was with Kings XI Punjab in the previous editions of the IPL before Delhi Daredevils signed him for a whopping ₹ 9 crores in this year's auctions.

The Aussie has scored 1228 runs in 57 IPL matches at an average of 25.06 with a strike rate of over 160. He has smashed the ball out of the fence 82 times and has the highest score of 95.

The former Kings XI star will play a vital role for the Daredevils in the middle order and can instantly change any game in the favor of DD with his lethal batting.
