5 players with most IPL ducks

Gautam Gambhir is well known for his troubles at the beginning of the innings

The most frustrating thing for a batsman is getting out on a duck. Batsmen battle it out in the nets to leave a lasting impression in the match and it is a nightmare for them when they get dismissed without opening their account. At times even the best of batsmen have struggled to leave a mark.

Over the years in the Indian Premier League, many batsmen have suffered such fate where they have been dismissed without troubling the scorers. As we enter into the second decade of the IPL, let us take a look at five players with the most number of ducks in the tournament.

#5 Manish Pandey (11 ducks)

Manish Pandey was the first Indian to score a century in the IPL

Manish Pandey has been one of the star performers for the Kolkata Knight Riders, he has played wonderfully in the IPL so far. Pandey played a significant role in KKR's success in 2014 where he helped them clinch the title.

The 28-year-old has scored at an average of 28.39 in the IPL but the ducks seem to haunt the batsman. Pandey holds the capability to play long innings for his team but he needs a bit of time to settle at the crease. The former KKR batsman has scored 11 ducks in the IPL.

#4 Piyush Chawla (11 ducks)

Piyush Chawla's is a force to reckon with the ball; not so much with the bat

The KKR leg-spinner was instrumental in their title win in 2014. He scored the winning runs for them in the final. He has played only 69 innings in 129 matches as he bats in the lower order.

However, he has been dismissed 11 times without troubling the scorers. The 29-year-old has a reputation of bashing the ball in domestic cricket. While he is known more for his bowling abilities, his form with the bat in hand has been deteriorating considerably given his mediocre average of 12.26.

#3 Gautam Gambhir (12 ducks)

Gambhir started the 2014 IPL season with three consecutive ducks

The flamboyant batsman has played wonderfully in the IPL till now. Gambhir has represented two franchises - Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders. His captaincy stint was successful for KKR as he clinched two titles as a captain.

In 147 innings he has scored 4132 runs at an average of 31.54. The 36-year-old has performed tremendously throughout his career but the biggest nightmare for him has been his inability to start his innings on a solid note. In the 2014 edition of the IPL, Gambhir was dismissed for three consecutive ducks in the first three games.

In total, he has been dismissed on twelve occasions without troubling the scorers. The top order batsman will look to change his fate in this year's IPL as me makes a return to his hometown franchise.

#2 Parthiv Patel (12 ducks)

Parthiv Patel has played the accelerator's role on many occasions

The wicket-keeper batsman has played for six franchises throughout his IPL career. Parthiv Patel has struggled to settle in a single franchise. He has been phenomenal in domestic cricket but has failed to make an impression in white ball cricket.

Patel's job in every team was to take them to a quick start. He succeeded on a few occasions but failed to deliver in most matches. The 32-year-old has scored 12 ducks in 117 IPL innings. The aggressive batsman has a decent record in the IPL amassing 2322 runs at an average of 21.70.

#1 Harbhajan Singh (13 ducks)

Harbhajan Singh will don new colours in the new IPL season after playing for Mumbai Indians for 10 years

Veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh tops the list with 13 ducks to his name. Harbhajan Singh played for the Mumbai Indians in the first ten editions of the IPL. At times, he was used as a floater in the batting order. On a few occasions, he has batted in the middle order to score runs quickly.

His highest score of 64 came at his usual position when his side lost quick wickets. The 37-year-old has played some handy cameos for his franchise but his mindset to clear the boundary rope on every single delivery has hurt him a few times. The Punjab lad has bagged 13 ducks in 84 innings. With a strike rate of 142.42, he has amassed a total of 799 runs in his IPL career.
