The Indian women's team beat New Zealand by three runs to qualify for the semi-finals after making it three in three in the ongoing Women's T20 WC in Australia. After hammering Australia and Bangladesh in the first two matches, the Indian team rallied behind teenager Shafali Verma and Radha Yadav to edge past a tense finish.

16-year-old Shafali Verma stroked her way to an enthralling knock of 46 runs that included three sixes. Chasing a target of 134, the white ferns lost their way after a promising start, losing wickets at regular intervals. Amelia Kerr gave India a scare as she took the match into the last over with 9 needed off two balls. However, despite hitting a boundary she failed to capitalize on the last ball as New Zealand lost by three runs.

Scorecard:

India: 133-8 (20 overs)

Shafali Verma 46(34), Taniya Bhatia 23(25); Amelia Kerr 2/21

New Zealand: 130-6 (20 overs)

Amelia Kerr 34*(19), Maddy Green 24(23); Shikha Pandey 1/21

I was happy with the performance and wanted to give a good start at the powerplay. I waited for the loose balls which is my strength and it paid off today. I practised a lot with the boys and I want to thank my dad and all the boys at the practice who helped me train well in batting.
