The maiden ENG-NED clash at an ODI World Cup took place in Peshawar in 1996. The England won that game on the back of a century in the first innings by Graeme Hick (104*).

Seven years later, the two once again met for the second time at the Buffalo Park in East London. This time, a four-wicket haul from James Anderson (4/52) restricted the Dutch side to 142/9 after the first innings. England chased down the total with six wickets and 160 balls in hand.

The last time England and the Netherlands met during an ODI World Cup was in 2011. The match, played in Nagpur, saw England record a six-wicket win. However, the Netherlands fared decently in this game, especially after Ryan ten Doeschate scored 119 runs in the first innings. Chasing 293 to win, England eased past the total with both Andrew Strauss (88) and Jonathan Trott (62) scoring fifties.
