The 2022 edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup saw batsmen push the envelope when it came to accumulating partnership runs irrespective of the state of the match.
The duo of Quinton de Kock & Rilee Rossouw broke the previously held record of the highest Partnership for the second wicket when they hammered the Bangladeshi attack to the tune of 168 runs at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground.
The record for the highest opening partnership was also broken during the same tournament as England’s Jos Buttler and Alex Hales whipped a listless Indian attack to the beat of 170 runs in the first semi-final at the Adelaide Oval.
Not only this, but the record for the highest fifth, eighth, and tenth wicket stand were also rewritten during the eighth edition of the global showpiece event.
While Ireland’s George Dockrell and Curtis Campher equalled Shoaib Malik and Misbah-ul-Haq’s 15-year-old record (119 vs. Aus in 2007) of setting the highest partnership for the fifth wicket (119 vs. Scotland in Hobart), Namibia’s David Wiese and Ruben Trumpelmann registered a record 70-run-stand for the eighth wicket against the United Arab Emirates.
The record for the highest 10th wicket partnership was also broken, as Paul van Meekeren and Fred Klaassen added 20 runs against Bangladesh during the same event.
As far as the sixth and seventh wickets are concerned, the Australian duos of Cameron White & Mike Hussey and Steven Smith & Mike Hussey hold the record, thanks to their 101* and 74-run-stand against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh respectively in 2010.
Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka and Wanindu Hasaranga hold the highest partnership record (123 vs. Ireland in 2021), while England’s Alex Hales and Eoin Morgan hold the same for the third wicket, thanks to their epic 152-run-stand against Sri Lanka in 2014.
