India and West Indies met at the Cricket World Cup for the first time on 9th June 1979 at Birmingham, England. West Indies defeated India comfortably by 9 wickets in that game.


The next India vs West Indies World Cup encounter took place on June 9, 1983 at Manchester, England. India won that game by 34 runs.


On June 15, 1983, it was time for India vs West Indies again at the ICC Cricket World Cup 1983 for the second time at The Oval. But West Indies won the game comfortably by 66 runs.

This was perhaps the only time that the same two teams met for a third time at the same world cup. At the 1983 World Cup finals India faced West Indies on June 25, 1983 at The Lord's. India defeated the two time reigning World Cup Champions by 43 runs and lifted the World Cup for the first time.


On March 10, 1992 India and West Indies met at Wellington. This time though, West Indies came out on top winning comfortably by 5 wickets


India and West Indies met for the sixth time Feb 21, 1996. The margin of victory was the same as the last time, 5 wickets, but this time the winners were India.

In the 2011 World Cup, India faced West Indies at Chennai. India was again the dominant side in the encounter winning by 80 runs.


In World Cup 2015 India vs West Indies World Cup match was played on March 6, 2015 at Perth, Australia which India won by 4 wickets.


The last India vs West Indies match took place in World Cup 2019 where India successfully defended a low score and defeated the opposition by 125 runs.
