The strip at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai promised a belter of a game and it did. India were put in to bat first and were off to a rolicking start with the openers taking the score past 60 inside the first 8 overs. Virat Kohli came in and enjoyed batting at the ground where he has had huge success. He remained unbeaten on 89 off 47 balls to take India to 192/2 in 20 overs. The West Indies were 19/2 before Johnson Charles (52 off 36) and a lucky Lendl Simmons took them home. Simmons was out twice off no balls and was caught on the boundary when Jadeja stepped onto the rope. With three lives, he scored 82 not out in just 51 balls. Andre Russell came in at No. 5 and tonked the ball to all corners of the stadium during his 20-ball cameo that produced 43 runs.

IND vs WI T20 World Cup - 2014


On a sluggish track in Dhaka, India won the toss and rightly decided to bowl first. Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled a superb spell of 3-0-3-0 to start the proceedings for Team India and choked the batsmen in the powerplay. Opener Dwayne Smith’s tally read 11 runs off 29 balls when he got out and the West Indians never got going. All that they could manage was 129/7. For India, Rohit Sharma batted throughout and finished unbeaten on 62 off 55 balls. Virat Kohli was also sublime in his knock of 54 runs off 41 balls as India chased down the target with 2 balls to spare.

The West Indies T20 World Cup squad batted first in this group stage encounter against India at Bridgetown. Shivnarine Chanderpaul opened the batting with Chris Gayle, who blasted off with a 66-ball 98 that consisted of 5 boundaries and 7 sixes. He did not get a lot of support from the others and thus could take his team only to a score of 169/6, that could have easily been more than 185. However, the track slowed down a bit later on and the Indian batsmen found it difficult to get going. Some of them took a long time to settle in and they fell short of the West Indian tally by just 14 runs.

MS Dhoni won the toss at Lord’s and opted to bat first. A flamboyant Yuvraj Singh was on display at the Mecca of Cricket as he swung his bat with his usual class. He racked on 67 runs in just 43 balls helped by 6 fours and 2 humongous sixes. Yusuf Pathan also did his bit with a 23-ball 31 as they set a target of 154. Dwayne Bravo picked 4 wickets with the ball but his contribution to the game was not yet over. West Indian batsman Lendl Simmons came in to bat in the second over as Fletcher returned with a 2-ball duck. He scored 44 off 37 deliveries and played the perfect supporting knock to Bravo. The man was full with confidence after his brilliant effort in the first innings and stunned India with a 36-ball 66 to take the West Indies over the line with 8 balls to spare.
