IPL 2017 MI vs DD: Delhi Daredevils probable playing 11 against Mumbai Indians, Match 25

Rishab Pant must be given a chance at the top of the order

After losing two matches back-to-back, the Delhi Daredevils will look to bounce back on Saturday, when they travel to the west coast to face the Mumbai Indians, a team on a real high after giving the Kings Xi Punjab a thumping at Indore, at the Wankhede Stadium.

We here look at the possible playing XI of the visitors:

Rishab Pant: The first big change the team needs to make in order to get back to winning ways. By playing Pant in the middle order, the team have just not been able to get the best out of him. A Twenty20 Strike-Rate of 145 should account for a player getting a lot of overs to bat, however that has not been the case with Pant and hence he should open the batting to get the team off to a good start.

Shreyas Iyer: Iyer got some runs under his belt in the last game, when he made a fifty against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. The right-hander will need to keep the tempo of the innings going if the side are to get to a big total and will look to get a big score in the upcoming matches

Sanju Samson: The best batsman of the franchise so far. Samson smashed the maiden hundred of this year’s IPL and has looked in good touch in all the matches. The League in the past has served as a turning point in most careers and perhaps, this season could be one for the Kerala cricketer.

Sam Billings: The Englishman has opened the innings for the franchise so far, but could play a more substantial role while building an innings in the middle order, a role he essayed in last year’s edition.

Chris Morris: The all-rounder who was gravely unfortunate to not get to bat in the last game, is the side’s MVP. A specialist at the back end of the innings both with bat and ball, it would not be the worst idea for the Daredevils to promote him and allow him to play a bigger innings.

Corey Anderson: The New Zealander played the decisive innings in the game against the Kings XI Punjab, which gave them the extra 20-25 runs that enabled them to extend the total close to the 200-run mark.

Pat Cummins: The fast bowler, ever since coming to India in March, has looked a different bowler, one who has not just remained injury-free but also picked up wickets with the ball. The presence of Zaheer Khan seems to be helping him both bowling and fitness-wise.

Amit Mishra: The leg-spinner needs to provide the side with wickets in the middle overs but crucially has to work on his bowling at the end of the innings when the pressure is on. It is an aspect of his game that has let him down on more than one occasion.

Shahbaz Nadeem: One of the best spinners in the country, Nadeem was dropped in the previous game and should be drafted back into the side on Saturday.

Zaheer Khan: The former India pacer has certainly rolled back the years in this year’s IPL so far and has made key contributions both as a bowler as well as a leader, employing different field placements, based on the batsman in the middle.

Mohammad Shami: The fast bowler, who is on a comeback trail, will hope to get more match practice under his belt as he continues to make his way back after a long layoff from the game.
