Mumbai Indians are a dominant force at home and will look to continue their winning ways on Saturday

The stage is set for a fascinating showdown between the two heavyweights of the tournament as the Mumbai Indians host the Delhi Daredevils in the second match of the doubleheader on Saturday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The home team are returning to their fortress after a thumping eight-wicket win over the Kings XI Punjab at Indore while the boys from Delhi lost to the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 15 runs in a nail-biting finish.

The two teams have been involved in some fiercely contested battles ever since the inception of the Indian Premier League in 2008.

Let us relive the five epic encounters between these two sides:

#1 Delhi Daredevils won by 10 runs, April 23rd 2016, Delhi

Sanju Samson anchored the innings for the Daredevils

The first match in the ninth edition of the Indian Premier League between the two sides at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi witnessed the hosts register a 10 run win over the Mumbai Indians in a closely fought encounter.

Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bowl first, giving their established bowling unit a chance to exploit the conditions on offer at the fresh Kotla wicket. The move, however, did not pay many dividends as the boys from Delhi batted extremely well and scored 164 for the loss of four wickets in their allotted quota of 20 overs.

Sanju Samson anchored the innings by scoring 60 in 48 balls and was well supported by JP Duminy who remained unbeaten on 49. The duo helped the Daredevils post a competitive first innings total.

The run chase for the Mumbai Indians was always going to be tricky and required the whole batting unit to step up and contribute. Barring Rohit Sharma’s 65 in 48 balls, none of the other batsmen converted their starts into a substantial score resulting in their downfall as the Mumbai Indians eventually fell short by 10 runs.

Samson was awarded the Man of the Match for his well-compiled half century.

Sanath Jayasuriya’s effort at the top went in vain for the Mumbai Indians

The Delhi Daredevils ousted the Mumbai Indians by five wickets in a nail-biting clash at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium. The match went all the way down to the wire as the hosts chased down a massive target of 177 runs in the last over of the match with just one ball to spare.

Mumbai Indians registered a huge first innings total of 176 after being put into bat, courtesy an explosive innings from Sanath Jayasuriya at the top of the order. The left-handed opening batsman scored 66 off 42 balls to lay the foundation for his side.

The huge run chase was always going to be a tough task against the quality bowlers of the Mumbai Indians but a complete batting performance ensured that the hosts got over the line with a ball to spare. Dinesh Karthik stayed calm under pressure and produced one of his best knocks in the IPL as he scored a well-crafted half-century to guide the Daredevils in the run chase.

The wicket-keeper batsman managed an unbeaten 56 off 32 balls in this successful run chase and was awarded the Man of the Match for this effort.

Lasith Malinga picked up a five-wicket haul to dismantle the batting unit of the Delhi Daredevils

It is not very often that bowlers pick up a five-wicket haul in the shortest format of the game but when they do, they make sure they break the backbone of the opposition batting line up.

The home side faced the brunt of Malinga Magic as they were bundled out for 95 after electing to bat first. The Sri Lankan pacer was at his very best as he used a barrage of slower deliveries and well-directed yorkers to dismantle the batting of the Daredevils and pick up five wickets in the match. He returned figures of five for 13 in his 3.4 overs which also included a maiden, to set up the match comfortably in the favour of the Mumbai Indians.

The chase was always going to an easy one for the experienced batting unit of the Mumbai Indians. The master blaster, Sachin Tendulkar anchored the run chase and scored an unbeaten 46 off 50 balls to help them register a comprehensive eight-wicket win over the hosts.

Malinga was awarded the Man of the Match for an exceptional spell of bowling.

Mumbai Indians cruised to victory

The first match between the two sides in the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League witnessed the home team register a comfortable victory over their counterparts by 29 runs at the DY Patil Sports Stadium.

Mumbai Indians powered to 162 in their quota of 20 overs largely due to cameos from Sanath Jayasuriya and Shaun Pollock. The left-hander made full use of the field restrictions as he smashed his way to 34 off just 16 balls to give the Mumbai Indians an explosive start at the top of the order.

Pollock then launched an attack on the opposition bowlers in the death overs. He scored a quick fire 33 off 15 balls to help the Mumbai Indians reach a respectable total of 162.

Pollack returned with the ball to damage the top order of the Delhi Daredevils as he picked up two crucial wickets of Shikhar Dhawan and Shoaib Malik. The two wickets dented the run chase and despite a valiant effort of 40 from 20 balls from Virender Sehwag, the target proved to be too steep for the Daredevils. Lack of contributions with the bat resulted in the visitors falling short by 29 runs.

The South African bowler returned figures of two for 16 in his four overs and was adjudged the Man of the Match for his all-round performance.

The latest encounter between the two formidable sides was all about Krunal Pandya as he announced his arrival on the big stage with a match-winning performance at Visakhapatnam. The 26-year-old was the find of the tournament for the Mumbai Indians in the ninth edition of the Indian Premier League and he played one of his best innings to set up the match in favour of the Mumbai Indians.

Promoted to bat at number three, the Baroda all-rounder smashed the bowlers all around the park to score 86 runs in his 37-ball stay at the wicket. This destructive knock was studded with seven boundaries and six huge hits over the fence and propelled the Mumbai Indians to a huge first innings total of 206.

The chase was always going to be a daunting task for the Delhi Daredevils and lack of partnerships meant they were bundled out for 126 with Quinton de Kock top scoring with 40 off 28 balls.

Pandya, bowling his left-arm spin, picked up two wickets for 15 runs to go with his batting contribution and was awarded the Man of the Match for this scintillating performance.
