Game: Match 65 of IPL 2013

Teams: Pune Warriors India vs. Kolkata Knight Riders

Over: 17.5 (2nd innings)

Yusuf Pathan finished the 2013 edition as the second highest run scorer for Kolkata Knight Riders. In this particular game, Yusuf smashed PWI bowlers all over the park as KKR was chasing a competitive target of 171. He recorded his first 50 since IPL 2010 during that game. KKR required 37 runs from the last 18 deliveries.

Wayne Parnell was smashed for a six and two fours by Yusuf Pathan in the first 3 balls of the 18th over. KKR gained the upper hand with these 3 boundaries. Nevertheless, Yusuf Pathan did the unthinkable in the 5th ball of that over. Parnell bowled a full-length delivery from over the wicket. Yusuf blocked and tried to run a quick single. However, in his follow through he kicked the ball deliberately as Parnell attempted to gather the ball. After watching the replay in several angles, the third umpire ruled him out obstructing the field.

As a result, KKR fumbled in the run chase and lost the match by seven runs. After losing nine consecutive games, PWI finally registered a victory, and in the process, they have also knocked KKR out of the tournament. So far, Yusuf Pathan remains the only batsman in the history of IPL to be given out obstructing the field.
