The change in skipper worked well for the Delhi Daredevils on Friday (Apri 27), as the franchise clinched their first game under Shreyas Iyer with a thumping 55-run victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium.

It was an incredible batting effort from the hosts, as they reached the highest total attained by any team in this year's tournament. After being put in to bat first, Delhi scored 219 runs in their quota of 20 overs, losing just four wickets in the entire process.

They started off well, as Prithvi Shaw and Colin Munro put up 59 runs for the first wicket, before the latter was finally dismissed immediately after the Powerplay, for a well-made 33.

Shaw continued on his rampage, though, and went on to become the joint-youngest player in the IPL to score a half-century. The under-19 World Cup winning skipper slammed 62 runs off just 44 deliveries in a knock that included seven boundaries and two very well-timed sixes. It was an immensely impressive effort from the youngster.

The right-hander was dismissed in the 14th over of the game, though, and was soon followed by Rishabh Pant, whose stay at the crease lasted for one sole delivery.

However, Iyer stayed put despite wickets falling at the other end. The newly-appointed DD skipper seemed to revel under the responsibility of leadership and brought his A-game to the table on the day.

He combined with Glenn Maxwell to smash the hapless Kolkata bowlers for as many as 76 runs in the last four overs of their innings. This carnage ensued and executed by the two right-handed batsmen proved to be the SK Turning Point of the match.

Shivam Mavi, Sunil Narine, and Mitchell Johnson were all taken to the cleaners by Maxwell and Iyer in this period. Mavi, in particular, had a horrendous day in the field, giving away 58 runs in his quota of 4 overs. He bowled the 17th and 20th overs of the death and was spanked for runs around the ground on both the occasions.

The last over of the innings, in particular, was the final blow from Delhi to Dinesh Karthik and his team, one they could not recover from through the remainder of the game.

Mavi gave away 29 runs, becoming the most expensive over of IPL 2018 so far. It pushed DD to a massive total that ultimately was too much for the Kolkata batsmen to chase.

Delhi now have the second victory of their season under the belt. With six victories needed off their last seven fixtures to get to the playoffs, they have to use the winning momentum to their advantage and swing for the fences in every game they play. Iyer's captaincy stint has started off in blistering fashion, and the franchise would hope that the youngster continues to bring positive results for them through the rest of their campaign.
