IPL 2018, DD vs MI: 3 Unnoticed things from the game

Delhi Daredevils win their final game of this IPL

Delhi Daredevils clashed against Mumbai Indians in an important encounter at the Feroz Shah Kotla.

Delhi Daredevils won the toss and put up a challenging total of 174/4 in their allocated 20 overs.

This was largely due to Rishab Pant who again stood out as the top scorer for Delhi, with 64 of just 44 deliveries. Vijay Shankar chipped in by scoring 43 of 30 deliveries to propel Delhi’s score to 174/4.

In reply, Mumbai got off to a great start scoring at more than 9 runs per over in the powerplay. However, they kept losing wickets post the powerplay and suddenly from 57-1 they sank to 78-5.

Hardik Pandya and Ben Cutting struck few lusty blows, but with the required run rate climbing and with wickets lost at regular intervals, Mumbai fell short by 11 runs.

This win for Delhi meant that Mumbai Indians are out of the tournament.

In a game that had everything, let us look at 3 unnoticed things from today’s game.

#3 Most runs by a wicket-keeper in IPL history

Rishab Pant shined for Delhi Daredevils again

Rishab Pant has been the backbone of Delhi Daredevils for this season. Every time, Delhi Daredevils were in trouble, he delivered with the bat and ensured his team reached a respectable score.

Today he came out to bat and smoked 64 of just 44 deliveries to help his team reach a sizeable score of 174/4 in the 20 overs.

He made history today by becoming the highest run scored by a wicket-keeper in the history of IPL.

In this edition of the IPL, the hard-hitting left-hander has scored 684 runs, which becomes the highest ever by any wicket-keeper, surpassing the record of 660 runs by Robin Uthappa in 2014.

#2 100 boundaries for Rishab Pant

Records kept tumbling for Rishab Pant as he registered another record by scoring 100 boundaries this season. In the 14 games he played, the left-hander scored 68 boundaries and as many as 37 maximums.

The biggest plus point of Rishab Pant is the brute strength and the ability to clear the boundaries with ease. We have seen how easily he has hit sixes, one-handed, of fast bowlers.

Below are the complete stats for this season for Rishab Pant:

14 Matches, 684 Runs, 394 Balls, 68 Fours, 37 Sixes, 5 Fifties, 1 Century.

#1 Second time 3 players have scored 650+ runs in an IPL season

Williamson, Rishab Pant and KL Rahul, all are fighting for the Orange Cap

In this year’s IPL, we have witnessed some heavy and consistent run scoring by the batsmen.

So far in this season, 3 players have surpassed an individual score of 650+, they are Rishab Pant, Kane Williamson, and K.L Rahul.

All these batsmen have scored more than 650 runs this season and have single-handedly carried the team’s burden on their shoulders.

Kane Williamson played some aggressive innings this IPL, that helped Sunrisers qualify for playoffs.

Similarly, this was the case with KL Rahul, who singlehandedly carried the burden of Kings XI Punjab throughout the season.

Delhi Daredevils were lucky to have Rishab Pant. He was the saving grace for DD this season. He was not only their top scorer but, the Orange Cap holder for this season so far. Without the services of Rishab Pant, it would have been a dreadful season for them.

This was the second time that 3 players scored more than 650 runs. The previous one was in 2016, when Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, and David Warner, scored 650+ individual runs.
