Tanvir's record has been intact for over ten years now

Even though T20 cricket has become more of a batsmen's game, bowlers are key to a side's success.

The fact that bowlers can win matches on their own was shown by table toppers SRH as they defended under-par totals in three consecutive matches.

The best bowling figures in this year's IPL are Ankit Rajpoot's 5/14, the best figures for an uncapped Indian bowler in IPL, but what are the best figures in IPL history?

Ten years ago today i.e. on 4th of May, 2008, Sohail Tanvir recorded the figures of 6/14 for RR in the inaugural edition of IPL.

Tanvir, the purple cap winner of the inaugural edition, registered the record figures in Rajasthan Royals' first ever encounter against Chennai Super Kings.

His record has been intact for 10 years and only a few bowlers have the potential to break it this season.

Here are the five bowlers who can break Tanvir's record:

#5 Mayank Markande

<p>
Markande has been the find of the season

Mayank Markande had a dream start to his IPL career as he picked up 11 wickets in 8 matches for the Mumbai Indians.

He is definitely the find of the season and a player to watch out for. He showed glimpses of excellence in the first two matches picking up three and four wickets against Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad respectively.

Mayank Markande definitely has the chance to bag six or more wickets in a match breaking the Tanvir's record if gets some aid from the pitch. If not in this season, there is a chance of him breaking the record in the seasons to come.

#4 Jasprit Bumrah

Bumrah is currently the No.1 bowler in ODI cricket

Jasprit Bumrah is one of the most dangerous limited overs bowlers in world cricket and is ranked No.1 in ODI cricket.

He has been the go-to bowler in the death overs for both Indian cricket team and Mumbai Indians.

In this season so far, he has nine wickets from eight matches with an economy rate of just seven.

He is Rohit Sharma's strike bowler even in the middle overs, thereby increasing his chances of taking more wickets.

With him bowling at all the stages of the match, Bumrah has the ability to take as many wickets as possible and it will not be a surprise if he crosses the six-wicket mark.

#3 Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Bhuvi has been out injured this season

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been the main bowler for India in all three formats of the game. In limited overs cricket, he has been effective both in powerplays and in the death overs.

He has been phenomenal for Sunrisers Hyderabad and has a knack of picking up wickets at regular intervals.

In the 94 IPL matches that he played so far, he picked up 117 wickets with an economy rate of 7.07.

In this IPL, he missed four matches due to sore back but is set to return for his team's next six league matches. In this season, he picked six wickets in four matches and has an economy rate under seven.

With the kind of form that he is in, he can be a game changer with the ball. He reached close to the record last year as he picked up five wickets against KXIP.

He definitely has the ability to break the record and it will be interesting to see if he can achieve the feat.

#2 Rashid Khan

Rashid Khan has been sensational this season

The teenage sensation from Afghanistan, Rashid Khan, has taken the cricketing world by storm.

He is currently the No.1 ranked bowler in T20Is and has enjoyed success in T20 leagues across the globe.

He has impressed one and all in his first IPL season and was rightly retained by Sunrisers at the auction.

In the eight matches that he played so far, he has picked up 10 wickets. Barring the two matches against KXIP and CSK in which he conceded 104 runs, he bowled exceptionally and has combined figures of 24-1-128-8.

The emerging player of the previous year has been leading his team's bowling in the absence of Bhuvi and has played a crucial role in SRH's defence of three modest totals.

If he can continue his good work, he might break the record which was set ten years ago.

#1 Jofra Archer

The 23-year-old Barbadian rose up the ranks quickly and his ascendency was aided by his success in different T20 leagues.

He has a lightning fast yorker in his arsenal with which he can bamboozle almost any player in the world.

He missed the initial five games for Rajasthan Royals, but his performances in the last three games have been sensational.

In the three games so far, he picked up seven wickets and is now the leading wicket-taker for his team. He has an economy rate of 7.07 and an average below 10.

With his zippy yorkers and effective bouncers, Jofra Archer definitely has the ability to win a game on his own.

If he stays fit for the rest of the tournament, he might also pick up seven wickets in a match, a feat no one has ever achieved in the shortest format of the game.
