Kolkata Knight Riders’ defence of 133 against Delhi Daredevils at Kolkata during the inaugural season of the IPL was the first instance when a score below 150 (considering the match was 20 overs a team) was defended in the IPL.

Eight days later, that record was bettered by Royal Challengers Bangalore when they defended 126 against Chennai Super Kings at Chennai. The Super Kings could only score 112.

Almost a year later, Kings XI Punjab bettered RCB’s record by defending Mumbai Indians by 3 runs while defending 119 at Durban. A few weeks later, Punjab were at the receiving end when Chennai Super Kings bettered their record by beating them by 24 runs while defending 116 at Durban.

Since then, CSK have held the record of the lowest score defended in IPL history.
