IPL 2018, KKR vs KXIP: 3 Unnoticed things from the match

With the win, Punjab head to the top of the table

Match 19 of the IPL 2018 saw a top table clash between teams headed by Tamil Nadu boys at the Eden Gardens.

Setting a decent total on the board, KKR would have been confident of defending 191 runs but KL Rahul and Chris Gayle smashed the bowlers all over the park and batted sensibly when the rain was lurking around not gifting their wicket away.

Following the rain interruption, they were set a revised target of 125 runs in 13 overs and thanks to their proactive batting, it was chased easily in the end with Gayle doing the honours, earning an important victory for Kings XI Punjab.

Sportskeeda takes a look at the three unnoticed things from the match which had a considerable impact on the end result.

#1 Lynn's change in tactics

Lynn rediscovered his touch against KXIP

Chris Lynn finally showed a glimpse of his old form with a brilliant half-century, which helped to power his side to 191 batting first at the Eden Gardens.

However, it didn't come without a sacrifice in the batting technique which symbolised 'Lynn-sanity' to the world by curbing his favourite leg side swat.

This season he scored 61% percentage of runs on the off side which proved his adaptability to the conditions and it paid rich dividends today with an enterprising knock of 74 from 41 balls which included six boundaries and four maximums.

Despite the cautious start to his innings, he accelerated at the right time for KKR and stitched useful partnerships with Robin Uthappa and Dinesh Karthik.

Andrew Tye finally got the better off him in 16th over of the innings, when he went for a premeditated slog shuffling right across the stumps nicking behind to Rahul.

#2 Economical Tye

Tye was brilliant with his final two overs

Reputed as one of the best death over bowler in the T20 circuit around the world, Andrew Tye proved his credentials with a potentially match-winning spell at the back end of the innings to restrict KKR to 191, which was chased successfully by them thanks to another blistering knock from Gayle.

Despite being expensive in his initial spell, he came back strongly with the timely wicket of Lynn, who looked primed for a century and giving away just two runs in the 16th over.

Bowling the final over, he didn't concede a single boundary and priced out the wicket of Tom Curran, which also included a dropped catch from Mujeeb denying his third wicket.

He finished with impressive match figures of 4-0-30-2.

# 3 Timeout factor

Wickets right after the break have always been an increasing trend in international cricket regardless of the formats.

In IPL, it came in the form of '' Time-Out'', with Robin Uthappa falling prey.

Carrying on good form with the bat in this tournament, Uthappa was motoring along with an impressive partnership with Lynn, until the break where he gifted his wicket away to Ashwin off a half-tracker, first ball after a time-out.

Uthappa looked sublime throughout the tournament muscling the ball well without a big score to his name.
