IPL 2018, MI Vs DD: 3 Masterstrokes from the game

<p>
DD got their first win of the season

It was a match between the two big cities, as Mumbai Indians were hosting the men from the capital in the scorching heat at the Wankhede stadium.

Both the teams were winless in their two matches played so far and looked to open their account in the points tally with a win in Mumbai.

Gautam Gambhir won the toss and asked Rohit Sharma and co to put some runs on the board.

The decision to bowl first didn't pay off as Mumbai openers smashed their way to record highest powerplay score in this year's IPL.

After some decent bowling in the middle overs from the Delhi bowlers, they managed to restrict the home team to a changeable 194.

Chasing a mammoth 195, Delhi were off to a flier even after a rusty looking Gambhir was dismissed.

After the skipper's dismissal, Rishabh Pant came in to blaze everything out of the ground. Even despite some quick wickets from Krunal Pandya, Jason Roy and Shreyas Iyer ensured that their side secured the first victory of the tournament to open their account on the points table.

Let's take a look at some of the masterstrokes from the game:

#1 Promotion for Suryakumar Yadav

Yadav was opening the innings for the first time in his career

A change was expected at the top of the order given Sharma didn't have a great outing with the bat in the previous few games.

In order to open, MI asked the in-form batsman Suryakumar Yadav to express himself at the top knowing the fact that he has never opened in his entire career.

Yadav, much to everyone's expectations, came to all guns blazing from the word go.

He, along with Evin Lewis, hammered the bowlers all around the park to make the highest powerplay score in this edition of the league.

The move had its worth as Yadav smashed a 29-ball fifty to set the dice rolling for his team. It was too late before Yadav was dismissed by Tewatia, who brought Delhi back into the game for a score of 53 to send him back to the pavilion.

#2 Giving four overs on the trot to Rahul Tewatia

Tewatia dismissed both the Mumbai openers

Gambhir found his side in all sorts of trouble after he asked the home team to bat first. With the batsmen striking at more than 12 runs an over, he was left to ask Tewatia, to spin a web around the Mumbai team through some of his leg-spin variations. The leggie didn't disappoint his skipper.

Not only did he applied brakes to the scoring rate but also got rid of both the openers who had bamboozled his other bowling partners in the first six overs.

He was effective with his googly that gave him both his wickets. As a result, he was given all his four overs on the trot as he finished his spell with 2/36 to put some pressure back on the opposition.

#3 Bowling Kunal Pandya against pinch hitters

Krunal picked up some key wickets for the Mumbai Indians

At one stage Delhi Daredevils were cruising towards the target when the likes of Pant and Roy were hammering the bowlers to all parts of the ground.

Sharma then came up with a certain attacking option when he threw the ball to the elder Pandya brother, to rescue his side from deep waters.

Pandya was bang on as he took the prize scalp of Pant, courtesy a stupendous catch from Kieron Pollard at the long off boundary.

The Mumbai captain trusted his instinct to give Krunal with another over. This was a worthy decision from the skipper as the left-arm spinner produced yet another wicket to get the rid of the mighty Glenn Maxwell to be termed as a masterstroke from the MI skipper.
