IPL 2018 : Top 3 dark horses for the orange cap

Australia v Pakistan - 5th ODI
David Warner won the orange cap last season

IPL is the annual fest that is organised every year in India where players from around the world participate to showcase their talent.

There are some players who perform exceptional in the two months of IPL.

IPL awards such players for their outstanding performances and consistency. One such award is Orange cap.

The 'Orange Cap' is an award presented to the leading run scorer in the IPL. The tradition to award cap was introduced a week after the start of the first season of IPL on 25 April 2008.

The batsman who is the leading scorer after each match wears this orange cap while fielding.

The overall highest scorer at the end of the tournament wins the actual Orange Cap award on the day of the season's final at the presentation ceremony.

We also see few dark horses like Shaun Marsh and Shreyas Iyer in the tournament who out of nowhere show some mind-blowing cricket.

Marsh was the first winner of the orange cap award. So, this year also we can have such players. Here are the few players who could be dark horses for the orange cap this year.

#3 Colin Munro

New Zealand v Bangladesh - 2nd T20
Munro has scored 396 runs in nine T20Is this year

Colin Munro was a steal for Delhi Daredevils for a price of 1.9 crores at the auction.

He has gained a reputation for being a constant striker of the ball. The year 2017 was the best phase of Munro's career as he played many match-winning knocks for the country.

He became the fourth player to produce multiple T20I centuries after Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum and Evin Lewis.

He is in good touch this season and has scored 396 runs in nine T20Is this year.

If Munro is given a fair chance in DD, he will surely tear apart the opposition's bowling. A destructive batsman at the top, Munro has gained a huge confidence and consistency in this season.

He is also a handy medium pace bowler. If Munro finds his touch in IPL, he will be a huge asset for DD.

#2 Evin Lewis

England v West Indies - 4th Royal London One Day International
In 2017, Lewis scored the highest 357 runs in nine T20Is

Lewis is an aggressive left-handed opening batsman with two T20 international hundreds. In his second T20I, Lewis smashed a 48-ball hundred against India and which helped the West Indies in a narrow one-run win.

His second T20I hundred was also against India, where he hit a brilliant 125* at Sabina Park. This shows he is good against Indian bowlers and scores heavily against them.

Lewis was center of attraction at the 2013 Champions League Twenty20 in India, where he scored 211 runs across five innings.

In 2017, Lewis scored the highest 357 runs in nine T20Is at a strike rate of 154.54 which also includes a hundred.

For Lewis, Gayle is his mentor and he likes to hit big sixes like him. Lewis went to MI for a price of 3.8 crores and he would like to continue his form in IPL and make himself the contender for 'orange cap'.

#1 Chris Lynn

Australia v England - T20 Game 2
Lynn scored 309 runs at an average of 154.50 at a strike-rate of 177.59 in 2017 season of BBL

A powerful striker of the ball, Chris Lynn was bought by KKR for a whopping price of 9.6 crores.

He made his first impression in IPL by taking an insane catch of AB De Villiers. He also made an important 45 in that match which won him the man of the match award.

Last year, Lynn and Sunil Narine took RCB apart, when they formed a record 106-run opening partnership off 36 balls.

Lynn popularly known as 'Lynnsanity', is famous for hitting big sixes and his game-changing abilities.

He was the 'man of the tournament' in the BBL for two seasons in a row.

In 2017 season of BBL, he was dismissed only twice and scored 309 runs at an unbelievable average of 154.50 at an astonishing strike-rate of 177.59.

In 2016 season, he was the top-scorer in the BBL with 378 runs at an average of 54, and again at a mind-blowing strike-rate of 173.

Lynn was injured recently in a tri-series match but as per the update he would join the camp of KKR and they are hopeful of him playing the first match.

If Lynn plays all the matches for KKR this season, he will make sure that his fans get an entertaining season. His record also shows that he would definitely go for the orange cap.
