There must be no objection to the fact that Mumbai Indians need a class opener, who could accompany Rohit Sharma. An ideal opener should be able to stand strong against the new ball, negate the deadly swing and score quickly during the powerplay. Jos Buttler has all these capabilities and more. The Englishman, who is a very good wicket-keeping batsman, has the ability to turn around a game. Although Rohit has a good partner in Quinton De Kock this season, the Mumbai Indians fared poorly in the IPL last season, owing to not having seasoned openers. Buttler has been phenomenal for Rajasthan Royals and is currently 10th in the Orange Cap list this season. The 28-year-old has scored 139 runs in four matches this term, with a strike rate of 137.62. Buttler is the third player whom the Mumbai Indians regret not retaining.
