Imran Tahir is second in the list of highest wicket-takers in IPL 2019, with 9 wickets to his name. More than the number of wickets, it is the spirit that the South African has shown on the field which has stood out. His fighting qualities in confronting challenges against the best in the business and the celebrations thereafter are a treat to watch.

In the first match of this year’s IPL, while Harbhajan finished off the RCB top order, Tahir polished off the tail with figures of 3 for 9.

Tahir always relishes the challenge of bowling to top-order batsmen, and in the next 3 matches, he got the wickets of Shreyas Iyer, Dinesh Karthik, Steve Smith, Rahul Tripathi, Yuvraj Singh and Shubman Gill. He would have had Andre Russell too but for a dropped catch by Harbhajan.

The only match where Tahir went wicketless was in the game against KXIP. But in that match, bowling the 15th and 17th over of the innings, Tahir gave away a mere 10 runs to keep the target beyond Punjab’s reach.

Among the top 10 wicket takers in this year’s IPL, Imran Tahir (5.36) and Harbhajan (5.13) have the best economy rates. They along with Kieron Pollard have proved beyond any doubt that there is no substitute for experience, and age is just a number.
