Chennai Super Kings’ policy of retaining their core group of players over the years is a significant factor behind their incredible success rate. Even at the end of IPL 2018, they released only three players. Hence, we can expect CSK to repeat the same this year.

Kedar Jadhav had a horrible IPL 2019 campaign as he scored only 162 runs from 12 innings with a slow strike rate of 95.85. He was ruled out of the playoffs due to a shoulder injury. Even in the IPL 2018, he managed to play only one game and missed the rest of the tournament due to a hamstring injury. Along with Jadhav’s injury-prone record and poor performances, his massive price tag of ₹7.8 crore might force CSK to release him ahead of the next season.

CSK bought Mohit Sharma for a vast sum of ₹5 crore in this year’s IPL auction. Since the Chennai pitch assisted spin bowlers, Mohit had a minimal role to play in this season. In his only game of the season, he conceded 27 runs in his three overs and claimed one wicket. Since there are several other pace bowlers in their squad, CSK might release Mohit to increase their purse value.

#1 Mumbai Indians

After a disappointing IPL 2018 campaign, Mumbai Indians roared back in style by winning their fourth IPL title this year. Despite a sloppy 2018 campaign, MI’s think-tank retained a majority of their core players ahead of this season. Since they lifted the trophy this season, we can once again expect them to retain their core group.

During the 2018 mega-auction, Mumbai bought Evin Lewis for a considerable sum of ₹3.8 crore. Though he had a decent debut IPL last year, he lost his place to Quinton de Kock in this season. Since Mumbai Indians have plenty of opening batsmen like de Kock, Rohit Sharma, and Suryakumar Yadav in their squad, they might release Lewis ahead of the next season to increase their purse value.

To strengthen their bowling attack, Mumbai bought Barinder Sran for a considerable sum of ₹3.4 crore in this year’s IPL auction. However, he was very expensive and remained wicket-less in both of his outings in this season. His high price tag and poor performances might force MI to release him ahead of the next season.
