Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders are the two heavyweights of the competition. They have lifted the IPL trophy on five occasions between them. Both CSK and KKR have been in fantastic form in the tournament as they have emerged as favourites to win the tournament yet again. So when Dhoni's men host KKR the world will sit down to take notice.
CSK has a great head to head record against two times IPL champions KKR. They have won 12 matches while they have lost only eight against KKR.
The hosts CSK has been very impressive throughout the tournament. The men in yellow have won four out of their first matches this season. The best thing about their run is that they are not over-dependent on anyone.
KKR is in this position on the back of heroics from Andre Russell. They do have some chinks in the armour as their top-order has not been consistent but Russell has taken take of everything.
If CSK bat first
It is difficult to judge how the Chepauk pitch might behave. The pitch was a rank turner in the first match while it helped the pacers in the second. CSK has the batting line up to cope with both the situations.
Sending Faf Du Plessis to open has made their batting look even stronger. MS Dhoni's men must be aiming to score 170-180 if they have to bat first against KKR.
If KKR bat first
It seems appealing to add 30-40 runs to any prediction for KKR just because they have Andre Russell. The West Indian has scored runs at a strike rate of almost 270 in this season.
But CSK has a great bowling line up and if CSK can get early wickets, pressure might be too huge for even Russell to handle. CSK can reduce KKR to a score of around 150-160.
Who will win?
This match is too tough to call as both the teams have been brilliant this season. But CSK has the edge due to home advantage and the fact that KKR seems a bit over dependent on Andre Russell.
