Hanuma Vihari, who rose to prominence after the Indian colts' victorious 2012 ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup, began his IPL stint with the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013. In that season, he made 241 runs in 17 matches for the Hyderabad franchise and was then released ahead of the 2014 edition.

Although he returned to represent Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2015 IPL, he made just five appearances throughout the season scoring 39 runs and was once again left out of the squad ahead of the ninth season. After going unsold at 2016, 2017 and 2018 IPL auctions, his fortunes finally changed at the 2019 auction as he was bought for INR 2 crore by the Delhi Capitals.

The Kakinada-born batsman who made his Test debut last year against England at the Oval, scored a half-century on his debut Test innings (56) which grabbed the headlines. Indeed, it's a deserving IPL contract for Vihari, who has been simply outstanding across the domestic circuit for quite some time.

On his IPL contract, Vihari said, "The challenge for me is to perform in the IPL first. I feel I can take my game to the next level and this year’s IPL will be a perfect platform". He further added, "You need someone at that No. 4 spot who has a good technique and can adapt to any situation. I think I have the skills and the game to succeed at that position".
