IPL 2021: MI player ratings vs KKR as nothing clicks for defending champions

Quinton de Kock: 7.5/10

De Kock started incredibly as he found the boundary at will, but his innings rapidly lost momentum in the middle phase of the innings. He ended up with a team-high 55 off 42 balls, but MI needed him to be more assertive between overs 10 and 15.

Rohit Sharma: 6.5/10

Rohit played a few delectable shots in his 33, but his nemesis Narine dismissed him once again in the IPL. The MI skipper was also guilty of letting the match slip away in the second innings, although it must be said that KKR were almost perfect with their shot selection.

Suryakumar Yadav: 1/10

A rash shot from Suryakumar off Krishna saw him sent back to the hut for a laborious 5. MI need their middle-overs talisman to step up in the coming games.

Ishan Kishan: 3/10

Barring an authoritative six, Kishan struggled in the middle before top-edging a pull off Ferguson. He seems oddly hesitant to play the big shots, and his numbers this season don't make for good reading with a T20 World Cup on the horizon.

Saurabh Tiwary: 7/10

Despite his fifty in the last game, Tiwary batted at No. 7, below even the woefully out-of-form Krunal Pandya. He struck a beautiful four in the two balls he faced and worked hard in the field.

Kieron Pollard: 6/10

Pollard hit two fours and a six during an entertaining battle with Krishna, but MI's overseas legend wasn't in his element against KKR. His strike rate of 140 should've been higher in the final overs, especially with MI desperately needing quick runs. The West Indian even bizarrely left a couple of balls at the death in a puzzling batting display overall.

Krunal Pandya: 4/10

Krunal had yet another disappointing outing for MI, and his place in the playing XI is under serious question. He scored 12 and conceded 25 runs in three non-threatening overs. The left-arm spinner is definitely the weak link in this MI side.

Adam Milne: 3/10

Milne couldn't replicate his exploits from three days ago against CSK. He conceded 29 runs in his three overs, with the KKR batsmen using his extra pace to great effect.

Rahul Chahar: 1/10

Chahar was another bowler who had an off-day as he conceded 34 runs in his three overs. He dropped a tough catch off his own bowling that may have given MI a way into the game, but offered too many freebies for Tripathi to capitalize on.

Jasprit Bumrah: 6.5/10

Bumrah scalped three wickets to give MI some hope, but MI's spearhead just couldn't control the flow of runs. Often bowling looseners and leaking 43 runs, the quick failed to deliver what was expected of him against KKR.

Trent Boult: 2/10

Boult bowled two overs that were taken for 23 runs. His only other involvement in the game was a catch to dismiss Morgan when the result was all but decided.
