RP Singh, in the most critical ball of the match, over-stepped and was called no-ball despite the catch being taken. Jadeja just nicked it in the air and ran, and thereby taking Chennai Super Kings to a 4-wicket win, in an intense encounter at Chepauk. With 16 runs needed off the last over, Virat Kohli tossed the ball to RP Singh as he bowled extremely well against the Knight Riders. After being struck for four and a six, Virat Kohli was not pleased with RP Singh. With 2 runs needed off 1 delivery, RP Singh had over-stepped, thereby handing the win to the Super Kings.

At one stage, Royal Challengers had the match in control with the wicket of Badrinath (34) in the 12th over. Dhoni and Jadeja gave the Super Kings an outside chance as the duo re-constructed the innings and batted brilliantly. They clearly had a plan in their mind as they targeted the 15th and 17th over to bring down the req. rate from 12.00 runs per over to 9.00 runs per over. Dhoni struck two massive sixes – one off RP Singh and the other off Ravi Rampaul to bring down the equation to 41 runs off 18 balls. Suddenly, there was a twist in the game as Ravi Rampaul’s twin-strike in the 18th over opened the contest. Dhoni was caught behind for 33, and Bravo was struck in line for 8. Jadeja kept his composure and secured a thrilling win for the Chennai Super Kings.

Yet again, they did not have a great start as Murali Vijay was cautious against the new ball. Perhaps he was not confident enough in handling swing, and consequently, he was dismissed in the second over for 2. Royal Challengers Bangalore kept things tight following the wicket of Vijay. Hussey and Raina were just able to stay alive as the Royal Challengers’ seamers were on top. At one stage, either one of them had to take the risk, but Hussey was dismissed for 6 at the end of the fourth over.

Badrinath played a typical role as he has been the go-to man in a crisis for the Super Kings. He handles pressure situations cleverly, and therefore he was promoted up the order. Badrinath put on a salvaging partnership of 55 runs with Raina, before the spinner Sayed struck to remover Raina for 30. Badrinath followed Raina in quick succession as he tried to scoop over extra-cover, but managed to find Agarwal’s hands.

Royal Challengers Bangalore had Chennai under control till the 18th over, but a player like Jadeja can make a huge difference, especially in the last over.

Chennai Super Kings’ bowlers made use of the wicket pretty well as they restricted the Royal Challengers to 165 runs. Though their bowlers went for runs in their initial spell, they came back strongly in their second spell as Chennai Super Kings picked 4 wickets for 32 runs in the last four overs.

Royal Challengers Bangalore, on the other hand, batted beautifully despite Gayle’s (4) dismissal in the second over of the match. Agarwal, just as he looked in good rhythm, was stumped by Dhoni off Ashwin for 24. Virat Kohli and AB de Villers combined for a constructive partnership off 82 runs, and took their score past 150. AB de Villers batted fiercely as he smashed Chennai Super Kings bowlers to the boundary, especially in the last couple of overs.

Royal Challengers Bangalore would be extremely disappointed as they had almost won the match, while Dhoni would be a bit relieved.

Royal Challengers Bangalore play their next game against Delhi Daredevils on April 16, while Chennai Super Kings play their next game against Pune Warriors on April 15.
