The Mumbai Indians are one of the most successful teams in the history of the IPL; only the Chennai Super Kings have a higher win percentage than them. Mumbai have won the IPL title 3 times - in 2013, 2015 and 2017. Hit-man Rohit Sharma is their captain and has been at the helm for all three titles.

In their 11-year journey through the tournament, the Mumbai Indians have set innumerable benchmarks and records for other teams to look up to. As IPL 2019 is just around the corner, let's take a look at the top 5 records of the Mumbai Indians in the history of IPL.

#5 Most catches in an innings by a player (non-wicketkeeper) - Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar was the Mumbai Indians' marquee player, and a role model and leader for the team. He was known for his exploits with the bat and the occasional turns with the ball.

Tendulkar won the Orange Cap in IPL 2010 and was a key part of their road to the final. He was unlucky not to be a part of an IPL-winning side (he was injured during the 2013 final).

Tendulkar holds another record in the IPL. He has held the most catches in a single match, against KKR in IPL 2008.

The match was a walk in the park for the Mumbai Indians as KKR were bowled out for 67. Shaun Pollock, Rohan Raje, DJ Bravo and Dominic Thornely wrecked the KKR batting lineup.

Tendulkar took the catches of Salman Butt, Wriddhiman Saha, Ajit Agarkar and Shoaib Akhtar in that match. This record hasn't been broken yet, although David Warner and Jacques Kallis later leveled the Little Master with four catches each.

#4 Most wickets in the tournament's history - Lasith Malinga

Lasith Malinga has always been a crowd favorite and an icon for the team. He revolutionized the IPL with his slingy action, deadly yorkers and ever-consistent, wicket-taking style of bowling.

Malinga has taken 154 wickets in the history of IPL, with four four-wicket hauls and one five-wicket haul. He has won many matches single-handedly for the Mumbai Indians over the years. Malinga's performances in playoff matches for the Mumbai Indians are astounding, underlining his prowess as a big-match player.

The Sri Lankan gave another surprise to the cricketing fraternity at this year's player auction as he entered his name for a base price of INR 2 Crore. Mumbai bought back their talisman at his base price, and the cricketing world will want to see what he'll do this season as a player.

#3 Lowest Match Aggregate - 135

In the same match where Sachin Tendulkar set his record for most catches in an innings, another record was set by the Mumbai Indians. Their match against KKR recorded the lowest match aggregate ever, as only 135 runs were scored in the entire match.

The Mumbai bowlers trampled the KKR batsmen, bowling them out for just 67 runs, and subsequently chased down the target for the loss of just two wickets.

Only 20.5 overs were bowled out of the 40 overs in the match despite no rain interruption taking place. A subsequent match between KXIP and DD managed to equal this record, but after 9 long years.

#2 Have played the most matches in the IPL - 169

The Mumbai Indians currently hold the record for most matches played in the IPL. They have played a total of 169 matches in 11 seasons, averaging 15.36 matches per season.

A team plays a total of 14 matches per season; only if they qualify for the playoffs do they play more games. This stat of the Mumbai Indians illustrates their consistency and the number of times they have made it to the playoffs.

Though the Chennai Super Kings might have had a better record had they played in the 2016 and 2017 editions, credit must be given to the Mumbai management in ensuring that the team plays with the same intensity and purpose every year. They also recruit the right players for the job, which makes things a lot easier.

#1 Largest victory margin - 146 runs

Mumbai Indians' most illustrious record yet came with their landslide win against the Delhi Daredevils in IPL 2017. They beat the Delhi side by a huge margin of 146 runs, which is the highest margin of victory in IPL history.

It was Match 45 of IPL 2017 and the Delhi Daredevils captain Zaheer Khan opted to bowl first, which proved to be the wrong decision.

Openers Lendl Simmons and Parthiv Patel gave Mumbai a solid start before Parthiv was dismissed. Kieron Pollard was promoted up the order to maintain the momentum and the Caribbean player took the opportunity with open arms as he and Simmons tore the Delhi bowlers apart.

Simmons scored 66 before he got out, and skipper Rohit Sharma was dismissed soon after that. But Pollard smashed an unbeaten 63 off 35 balls and Hardik Pandya gave him company with 29 off 14 balls.

The Mumbai Indians scored 212 in their 20 overs for the loss of just 3 wickets.

Delhi in reply never managed to find their feet as Harbhajan Singh and Karn Sharma spun a web around them. The Mumbai bowlers shared the spoils, and for Delhi Karun Nair was the only player to score more than 20 runs. There were 3 ducks and 4 single-digit scores in their innings as they got out for a paltry 66.

Malinga picked up 2 wickets while Harbhajan and Karn scalped 3 wickets each.

This convincing outing showed the caliber of the Mumbai Indians team, and they went on to win Vivo IPL 2017 to become the first team to win the coveted trophy thrice.
