10:58 PM: RPSG 126/1 after 14.4 overs

Game set and match for Rising Pune Supergiants as Ajinkya Rahane hit Hardik Pandya for two sixes to seal the match in favour of his team. Rahane was unbeaten on 66 while KP scored 21.

10:56 PM: RPSG 114/1 after 14 overs

Harbhajan Singh conceded 10 runs in his third over. Kevin Pietersen hit his first ball sailing over the mid-wicket boundary for a six.

10:53 PM: RPSG 104/1 after 13 overs

8 runs were conceded from Shreyas Gopal’s over. This over also saw Ajinkya Rahane scoring the first fifty in this year’s IPL. In the last ball of the innings, Gopal dropped Rahane off his own bowling.

The second over from Harbhajan Singh conceded 10 runs including a six over long-on off the last ball.

The sixth over of the innings had a lot of drama as Rahane hit Bumrah over the mid-wicket region for a six. The very next ball had a comedy of errors from Faf du Plessis, Ajinkya Rahane and Jos Buttler as there was a mix-up between the batsmen and the keeper threw the ball just wide of the stumps. Later on in the over, there was a no-ball and it was followed by two sixes off two balls- oe over the covers and the next over the third man region. A total of 20 runs were conceded in the sixth over.

10:15 PM: RPSG 37/0 after 5 overs

The fifth over of the innings yielded 14 runs with a six each from Ajinkya Rahane and Faf du Plessis. Rahane pulled McClenaghan over the deep square-leg boundary while Faf danced down the track and lofted the ball over long-on.

10:10 PM: RPSG 23/0 after 4 overs

Once again, just 5 runs were conceded in an over. Ajinkya Rahane’s cut through the covers for a boundary was the only highlight of this over..

Just 5 off McClenaghan’s second over. There was a 50-50 chance for Mitch off his own bowling but there was hardly any time to react as the ball raced away to the boundary.

Just 5 runs were conceded in Jasprit Bumrah’s first over including a boundary off an inside-edge.

Ajinkya Rahane started off the chase with a well-timed boundary down the ground and ended the over with a four through the third-man region. So in total, 8 runs were conceded in the first over.

Ishant Sharma bowled the last over of the innings and conceded 17 runs. Harbhajan smashed Ishant straight down the ground for a boundary and followed it with a six over the same region. Harbhajan ended the innings with a boundary through covers. Mumbai end their 20 overs at 121-8. The turbanator remained unbeaten on 45 off 30 balls.

9:34 PM: MI 104/8 after 19 overs

The penultimate over bowled by RP Singh conceded 13 runs and produced a wicket. It started with a wide and followed it with a boundary over the off-side by Harbhajan Singh. Though RP Singh had Vinay Kumar caught by Steve Smith at deep square-leg, Harbhajan Singh smashed 2 boundaries in the last two balls.

9:27 PM: MI 91/7 after 18 overs

Mitchell Marsh came on to bowl his final over and had to deal with cramps in doing so. The first four balls yielded just two runs and the fourth ball was smashed over the long-off boundary for a six by Vinay Kumar. Vinay took a double off his last ball and ended Marsh’s spell with figures of 2-21.

M Ashwin in his final over conceded 5 runs including a boundary straight over his head by Harbhajan. Ashwin finished his spell with figures of 1-15

9:16 PM: MI 75/7 after 16 overs

R Ashwin starts his spell with a wicket the fourth bowler to do so today. It was a short delivery and Rayudu could have pulled you anywhere in the leg side, but ended up hitting it straight to Faf du Plessis at short mid-wicket. Later in the over, Harbhajan cut Ashwin through the point boundary. 7 runs were conceded n the over.

9:10 PM: MI 68/6 after 15 overs

Once again just three singles were conceded in the 15th over bowled by M Ashwin. Going into the last five overs, MI should target at least 100 runs to give their bowlers something to bowl at

9:08 PM: MI 65/6 after 14 overs

Rajat Bhatia continued his fine bowling as he conceded just 3 singles in his final over. In his four overs, Bhatia conceded just 10 runs and took the wicket of Keiron Pollard.

9:04 PM: MI 62/6 after 13 overs

Harbhajan Singh cut M Ashwin for a double to the backward point region and apart from that, there were three singles in the 13th over.

9:00 PM: MI 57/6 after 12 overs

Harbhajan Singh replaced Gopal in the crease as Bhatia bowled his third over. After conceding just 1 run off his first two overs, Bhatia conceded 6 runs in his third over including a boundary through the covers from Rayudu.

Murugan Ashwin came on to bowl for the first time in this IPL and conceded just 3 singles in the over before taking the wicket of Shreyas Gopal off his last ball as the Karnataka all-rounder hit the ball straight to Ajinkya Rahane at long-off. In process, Mumbai reached their 50 in the 11th over.

8:52 PM: MI 48/5 after 10 overs

After bowling a maiden, Rajat Bhatia conceded just 1 run in his second over. Ambati Rayudu scored the run and became the first Mumbai batsman to get into the double digits in this innings.

8:47 PM: MI 47/5 after 9 overs

Marsh bowls his third over on the trot and concedes 7 runs in it. He started with a full ball on to Rayudu’s pads as Rayudu flicked it to the deep square-leg boundary. Apart from that, there were three singles in the over.

8:43 PM: MI 40/5 after 8 overs

Rajat Bhatia strikes off his first ball and bowls a maiden over. Third Pune bowler to start his spell with a wicket as he trapped Keiron Pollard plumb in front for 1. In the remaining five balls, Shreyas Gopal failed to score a single run and gave Bhatia a maiden, the first in this year's IPL.

8:38 PM: MI 40/4 after 7 overs

Just three runs were conceded in the over. There was a huge appeal from Marsh the Pune fielders for a LBW against Keiron Pollard. It was a full-toss which was completely missed by the big Trinidadian and the ball hit his pad right in front of the stumps. The ball was going to hit the middle and leg, but the umpire was not interested and refused to raise his finger.

MI 37/4 after 6 overs

After the first 6 overs, MI are 37-4. Ishant Sharma bowled his third over on the trot as he conceded 7 runs in the over out of which 6 are extras including a 5 wide.

MI 30/4 after 5 overs

Yet another wicket for Mitchell Marsh as he saw the back of Hardik Pandya for 9 off his first ball. In the last ball of the same over, Marsh struck again as he sent Jos Buttler for a duck on his IPL debut. A productive over for Pune as they conceded just 1 and took two crucial wickets.

MI 29/2 after 4 overs

The fourth over started with Hardik Pandya smashing Ishant Sharma over the covers for a boundary and followed it with a boundary over the slip cordon. Later in the over, Ishant castled Lendl Simmons for 8 which brought Jos Buttler into the crease for the first time in IPL.

After conceding 8 in his first over, RP Singh was smashed over his head by Lendl Simmons for the first six. Apart from that, there were two singles.

RP Singh bowled the first over of this year’s IPL and conceded 8 runs. Rohit Sharma smashed him through the covers for a boundary. Apart from that, there was a double and a couple of singles.

Therefore, at the outset, it looks to be a battle between the bowlers of either sides, with both of them having a more than capable batting line-up. On paper, Mumbai start as the favourites, but only time will tell whether they emerge as the favourites or not.

However, none of these bowlers have that tearaway pace to trouble the batsmen on an expectedly flat Wankhede track.

Hence, the onus would lie on the experienced shoulders of Ravichandran Ashwin, to try and combine with the likes of Adam Zampa and Murugan Ashwin to build pressure on the batsmen during the middle overs. For the Supergiants, it is this bowling aspect that makes them look less potent than their opponents, at least on paper.

They have Ishant Sharma, Irfan Pathan, Ishwar Pandey, Scot Boland, and RP Singh as frontline fast bowlers, while Thisara Perera and Albie Morkel can double up as all-rounders. Tim Southee, Merchant de Lange, Nathu Singh, and Lasith Malinga make up a good bowling attack for the champions, and on paper, they look one of the strongest sides in the IPL in terms of team balance and form.

In Harbhajan Singh, they have a vastly experienced spinner, while Jasprit Bumrah, who could be called as the find of the year for India, has been exceptional at the death. Jagdeesha Suchith and Shreyas Gopal have emerged as two bright young prospects in the spin bowling department.

Corey Anderson, who has emerged out as a new hero for Mumbai, has been almost as handy with the ball, as he has been with the bat, while Hardik Pandya's hitting prowess can take any bowling attack to the cleaners, especially on the Wankhede wicket.

In Lendl Simmons, Kieron Pollard, Ambati Rayudu, Parthiv Patel, and captain Rohit Sharma himself, Mumbai have a tried and tested batting line-up, that has been bolstered by the addition of the hard-hitting Englishman Jos Buttler.

While the Pune side looks unsettled, there is everything but that, as far as Mumbai Indians are concerned, who have a solid core of batsmen and bowlers, refurbished with some new buys this season.

However, he has several quality players in the squad including Ajinkya Rahane, Steve Smith, Kevin Pietersen, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Faf du Plessis, and it would all come down to how well these players gel up together.

On the other hand, MS Dhoni, the skipper of the Supergiants, would have to stitch together an entirely new set of cricketers, after his 8-year-long stint with the Chennai Super Kings ended, when the franchise was suspended for two years in relation to the spot-fixing scandal of 2013.

Rohit Sharma, who has already led the Mumbai side to the IPL glory once, would look to do it again and become the only captain after Gautam Gambhir of the Kolkata Knight Riders, to have won 2 IPL tournaments.

It's the defending, two-time champions, Mumbai Indians, taking on the one of the two new entrants into the IPL framework, the Rising Pune Supergiants.
