As of February 2025, former Sri Lankan captains Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara have had the most appearances in the ICC Champions Trophy, with 22 matches each. The third place on the list is also secured by another Sri Lankan and the 1996 World Cup winner Sanath Jayasuriya with 20 appearances.
Jayawardene played in the tournament from 2002 to the 2013 editions and participated in 22 matches, the most. He scored 742 runs with an average of 41.22. His highest score in the tournament was 84 not out, and he took 15 catches for Sri Lanka in the ICC CT. Jayawardene's teammate and one of the finest wicketkeeper-batters in world cricket Kumar Sangakkara also played in the competition from 2002 to 2013. He scored 683 runs for his country with a highest score of 134 not out and an average of 37.94. Sangakkara has 15 catches and five stumpings in the competition.
