"All their money is sitting in the dugout" - Varun Aaron blasts RCB's tactics ahead of IPL 2024 match against KKR

Virat Kohli has pretty much been a lone warrior for RCB with the bat
Virat Kohli has pretty much been a lone warrior for RCB with the bat.

Former Indian cricketer Varun Aaron has been baffled by just how overdependent Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have been on their star player Virat Kohli during the IPL 2024 season.

Kohli is at the top of the run-scoring charts with 361 runs from seven games at an incredible average of 72.20. However, Bengaluru are rock bottom of the points table with six losses from their seven games so far.

Speaking to Star Sports, Varun Aaron explained why RCB need their domestic players to step up and support Virat Kohli. He was also baffled to see the likes of Cameron Green and Glenn Maxwell on the bench in their 25-run loss to SunRisers Hyderabad earlier this week.

"If you have to be anywhere at the top of the table or the middle of the table at this point of the table, you have to have domestic players who are firing and you cannot always rely on Virat Kohli. The other guys have to step up and also all their money is sitting in the dug-out. You can't spend that much cash on players and not have them play," opined Aaron.

After Kohli, Faf du Plessis (232), Dinesh Karthik (226) and Rajat Patidar (109) are the next-best batters for RCB this season, suggesting just how little the contribution has been from other players.

Aaron Finch on Virat Kohli needing support from RCB

Former Australian captain Aaron Finch was also present in the discussion and he felt that while Virat Kohli being in supreme form is great for the Royal Challengers, he still needed support in the form of explosive batters.

On this, Finch opined:

"I think the fact that he's getting runs and RCB are still not making it is a positive sign in one degree. It's that when Virat is playing well, that genuinely carries the rest of the players with him. They just need to find a partnership with him, they need to find an explosive middle-order player who is in form."

Bengaluru have picked Cameron Green in their line-up for the IPL 2024 clash against the Kolkata Knight Riders and will be hoping that he gives able support to Kohli and other batters.
