The Bengaluru City Police have confirmed that no First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Virat Kohli. According to News18, police officials have received a complaint from a social activist, which is being examined.
On Thursday, HM Venkatesh, a social activist, had approached the Cubbon Park police station, seeking an FIR against the 36-year-old. He asked for the RCB batting talisman and his teammates to be made the main accused in the stampede outside the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday, June 4.
“The complaint will be examined as part of the ongoing investigation under an already registered case," a senior police official said (via News18).
The stampede outside the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday led to the death of 11 people. Karnataka State Cricket Association secretary, A Shankar, and treasurer, E Jairam, resigned from their posts on Friday with immediate effect.
Complainant alleges that Virat Kohli was the most prominent person involved in causing the stampede
As per News18, the activist had alleged in his complaint that Virat Kohli was the most prominent person involved in causing the stampede outside RCB's home stadium.
"Virat Kohli of the Bangalore RCB team is the most prominent among those who participated in such gambling and incited people to gather in a specific place and caused this tragedy. Therefore, we request you to please make Virat Kohli and his team members accused in the FIR of this tragedy and take action," the complaint read.
RCB announced financial support of Rs 10 lakh to each of the families who lost their loves ones in the stampede and also announced the launch of a fund named "RCB Cares".
"The unfortunate incident in Bengaluru yesterday has caused a lot of anguish and pain to the RCB family. As a mark of respect and a gesture of solidarity, RCB has announced a financial support of INR 10 lakh to each of the eleven families of the deceased. In addition, a fund called RCB Cares is also being created to support fans injured in this tragic incident. Our fans will always remain at the heart of everything that we do. We remain united in grief," the franchise said in a statement on Thursday, June 5.
