Mumbai Indians' (MI) pace bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has enjoyed an imperious run in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024).

The speedster was exceptional with the ball once again during the team's clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Mullanpur on Thursday, April 18. Bumrah conceded just 21 runs from his four overs while claiming three crucial wickets as MI successfully defended a target of 193 to clinch a nine-run win.

Bumrah has been a class above the rest this season and has earned widespread praise for his bowling exploits. Former West Indies cricketer Ian Bishop also lauded the fast bowlers following the PBKS vs MI game.

Bishop mentioned that Bumrah deserves a PHD in fast bowling. The cricketer-turned-commentator also suggested that the talented seamer should conduct lectures for aspiring pacers in India. He wrote on the microblogging platform X:

"If I could anoint Jasprit Bumrah with a fast bowling PHD, I would. He is a terrific communicator, Knowledgable & articulate. I’d then have him hold bowling lectures to young for aspiring seam bowlers across the country at all levels. I wouldn’t wait until he retired. #professor."

Jasprit Bumrah is currently the Purple Cap holder of IPL 2024. The 30-year-old has picked up 13 wickets from seven outings at a fantastic economy rate of 5.96.

"This format is a little difficult for bowlers, with time restrictions and impact player rules" - Jasprit Bumrah after his stunning performance against PBKS

Jasprit Bumrah was named the Player of the Match in the PBKS vs MI clash for his spectacular performance. Speaking at the post-match presentation, he underlined the IPL challenges for bowlers.

He also stated that while he does have conversations with fellow fast bowlers during MI's matches, he makes sure not to go overboard with his suggestions. Bumrah said:

"This was a close game. Much closer than what we thought it would go. Of course you want to make an impact when the ball does something. In this format the ball swings two overs. When I want to bowl more, I play Test cricket. That fulfills my desires.
"This format is a little difficult for bowlers, with time restrictions and impact player rules. Batting lineup becomes deeper and deeper. But that's not in your control. I do relay the message to the bowlers whenever I can. But you also don't want to deliver too many messages in the heat of the moment." he added

With three wins from seven fixtures, Mumbai are placed seventh in the IPL 2024 points table. They take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday, April 22.
